Question- Where/when can we find the Georgetown application essay prompts?
The application is available as of 6/1. Go to the website, under admissions you should see the Apply Now button.
@SonOfAbraham and @paveyourpath - I recently visited Georgetown and asked about the testing policy. They require ALL test scores. This does NOT mean you can choose to send ONLY all of your SAT scores OR all of your ACT scores. If you have taken both tests, you are REQUIRED to send both. This also definitely includes SAT Subject Tests. Essentially, ANY test score you have MUST be sent to Georgetown. When another visitor asked the Admissions Officer what will happen if a student does not follow this policy, the Officer said that if the University finds out that you did not send all of your scores, your acceptance can be revoked.
@dehcollege2017 I just visited the Georgetown website and while they do not say it directly I think you are actually right! Sorry for the misinformation.

@ueutyi why are you retaking the ACT? You have a 34. That is not going to be a deciding factor in your admission. TBH, the difference between a 34 and 36 is a statistical nonentity. Admissions officers look at 34+ scores the same way. They’ll be like “cool, he got a high test score, what else has he done?”. Don’t wast your time taking it again, unless getting a 36 is like a pride thing lol.
@ueutyi also, Georgetown doesn’t participate in score choice so you have to send that SAT score. If they find out that you didn’t send that SAT score they could rescind your admission.
I have a 1460 and retook, but assuming I didn’t do better, how is that for Georgetown? Concordance tables say its a 1410 on the old SAT which is exactly average. Would that hurt me as an unhooked application or is it enough that it won’t hurt or help?
The average is skewed by athletes and other people who got in because they had hooks (legacy, urm, etc) @class0f2017. But your scores are fine provided you have good Ecs, Recs, the whole gambit. You’d be better off if you had a hook, but your score won’t disqualify you. I feel you pain though. The average score according to numerous sources is a 31, but I have a sneaking suspension that a 31 still isn’t good enough with all these kids scoring 36s. I mean I’ve got hooks (URM, Interesting backstory I guess) but I still feel like that isn’t good enough to offset a score as low a 31. But that is probably just my paranoia talking lol.
You don’t need to have SAT subject tests for early action
@dnstudent26 It is still recommended to send them in, even after you send in the application.
@NikkuWadde Unfortunately not only do I not have hooks, I’m also an ORM so yeah lol. Really contemplating if I should even apply but we’ll see.
@NikkuWadde I was recommended to do so by a consultant, who said “your 34 is weak, 35 would make up your GPA a bit” to me. He also recommended (read: pushed) me to take the SAT.
@1zogden1 Thanks for letting me know.
@ueutyi, I think you’re gonna be just fine. Your GPA only matters in the context of your school. Your GPA may be “low” but in the context of your school, it puts you in the top 10% of students. So, it isn’t low by any means. And do you really think you can increase your 34 to 35 or 36? Not saying you can’t, but there is a point where diminishing returns kick in. It is a lot harder to increase a 34 than it is a 27 or so. I’m telling you man, you’ll do just fine with your 34, but if you want to take it again, that’s cool. Maybe taking the SAT will be more fruitful for you. But honestly, there isn’t a reason to take a standardized test again. Go do something meaningful with your time rather than take some stupid test. Win an award, publish a paper, or something equally impressive. Your 34 will not get your application tossed in the trash.
@class0f2017 Apply! My 31 is absolutely abysmal, but I’m gonna apply (after taking the SAT) because why not. Also, being a URM gives a small boost, but not as much as people seem to think. And everyone has a hook if they search hard enough. Being a quadruplet isn’t impressive on its own. But writing about how it forced me to establish my identity separately from my siblings and how that eventually lead to my passion for IR and Arabic, and to me getting a State Dept. scholarship to learn Arabic in Morocco is impressive (in my opinion). No matter how mundane it is, you can transform something about you into a “hook”. Also, your grades and scores are like mine, the average at Gtown. So you just as good a chance as everyone else. Let’s be real. I probably won’t get in. But there is absolutely no chance for me to get in if I don’t apply so…
So, does anyone know what subject test scores are considered good for Georgetown? I got my scores back, and I had an 800 in Lit, 780 in USH, and 740 in Bio. I’ve always heard that 750+ is ideal, but I’m not willing to waste another Saturday on standardized testing, so I’m just going to stick with these scores. But I was wondering if they’d be okay.
@NikkuWadde Honestly, you seem like the ideal candidate for SFS. Even ignoring your hooks, you have incredibly relevant ECs and experience that shows you’re committed to the field. My biggest worry is that none of my ECs actually fit with an IR field since my school just had no related clubs or anything, and I didn’t discover the interest until the past year or so. My only saving grace may be a grounding in foreign languages since I’m fluent in Urdu and learning Arabic (though nowhere near your level). Anyway, I think you have a great shot!
Hold up @HowBoutCollege. Don’t you have a perfect ACT and a near perfect GPA? You’re in! They’d be stupid to pass you up! I’m more borderline. My 31 and 3.82 GPA makes me nervous. I guess my ECs help a bit but they’re nothing if I don’t meet the numerical cut offs, even with hooks. You seem like the typical Ivy/ elites school acceptance profile. You got this!
