Not sure if there’s a thread out there for this so I decided to make one! If there is please link below. Otherwise, who else is applying to Georgetown from the HS class of 2020? Are you applying EA or RD and for what major? Is Georgetown your first choice? Also the best place to ask questions
applying EA for IR (yes I know literally the hardest major ever to get into Georgetown with hah) good luck everyone!!
Hi! Applying EA for Georgetown College, Government major. It’s my first choice.
I quote from The Hoya (school newspaper) “Students accepted in this year’s EA program student pool are, on average, in the top 5 percent of their class, with ACT scores ranging between 33 and 35, or SAT verbal scores between 720 and 760 and SAT math scores between 740 and 790” (from last year).
I was wondering if anyone knew how many applicants were admitted outside of these score ranges through EA, and by how much their scores varied. I have a 1370 on two SAT’s, 1410 superscored. However, my best math score is only at 640, but my verbal is at 770. If I don’t get in through EA, should I bother applying through Regular decision? Is the RD pool more diverse in terms of the people they accept and their scores?
Context: White. Wealthy suburban school from Pennsylvania, at least a few other kids from my school are applying EA. Strong extracurriculars (started two clubs, lifelong committment to cross country and tennis, two internships with State Reps).
What do you guys think? Thanks. I wish everyone the best of luck with their application if they haven’t done it already- currently working on the essays myself.
Forgot to add this to my initial post, but I will be applying EA for NHS as a nursing major. I had my interview a couple weeks ago and I am also working on my essays.
@sickofthisstuff I’m not sure about EA specifically, but of the students who were admitted and enrolled in 2018-2019, 73.41% had a SAT math score of 700-800 and 21.06% had 600-699.
If you are not accepted through EA, your application is automatically given a full second review during RD. Also, the acceptance rates for EA and RD are very similar.
@buckybarnesx I’m applying EA to Georgetown nursing too, and our stats are similar. I’ve got a 4.5 weighted, a 33 ACT. Great leadership and EC including having earned my CNA. Top 2% of my class. Really stressed it isn’t enough tho…
Good luck to you. Hoping to meet you there!
Okay, thanks for the info. Also, my school doesn’t do class rank, so does anyone know if that will hurt my chances?
Hi!
EA applicant for SFS
If my school doesn’t have an official MUN program but I’m in MUN clubs (run by students), can I still check off the MUN box in the activities section?
@sickofthisstuff
Not sure if your school is like mine, but my school doesn’t publicize class rank. However, they can still calculate what rank I am and they’ll report it to Georgetown, even though they don’t release it to the students (school counselor told me). Check with your school counselor jic but I’m pretty sure your counselor would be able to report it.
Did anyone submit an additional LOC (beyond teacher 1&2)? If so, does the submission show up on your portal?
Does the Nov 1 EA deadline mean we can submit Friday night?
No. Our school doesn’t rank and we send a handful to Georgetown every year.
I believe so, but I wouldn’t wait till last minute.
Hi!
I am applying to the NHS EA for human science.
Does anyone know how the diversity is in the NHS itself and if they care about unweighted gpa more than weighted?
I have a 3.79 unweighted but a 4.54 weighted. I hoping my decent 1540 for sat would help balance it eek.
Thanks!
Hi y’all!
I’m a bit nervous. I’m applying RD for English, though I don’t think I can get in. I’m top 7% of my class with a 4.35 weighted GPA (3.99 unweighted), though my SAT is only a 1260 and I have no SAT subject test scores. I probably can’t get any between now and when the application is due. My school does primarily DE classes (there’s only one AP class in my school) so I have no scores for those. Any advice?
Just some thoughts: should I retake my ACT? I’ve only taken it once with a 29 and no studying, so I think I can get in the 30s if I took it again (I would study the second time). I highly doubt my SAT will go up, but my grades and class rank are pretty strong, so I’m thinking about just retaking the ACT and hoping for the best.
Does anyone know anything about how much they consider essays? I can write killer essays, so that would definitely work in my favor.
Context: white, female, from southeast VA, middle class, public school, fairly strong extracurriculars (considering what my school offers)
No one else in my class is applying to Georgetown and my guidance counselor thinks I have a fairly decent chance to get in because of my socioeconomic opportunities. However, I know Georgetown’s stats, so I’m not sure how likely it is that I’ll get in.
@cgcallis Georgetown is holistic. They will consider essays, test scores, gpa, and ecs. I suggest looking at their common data set to see which parts of the app they weigh heavily. What was your ACT English subscore? As for the subject tests, the last sitting they will accept is the December one, which you will have time to do.
@zucchiniO78 Unsure about the diversity, but colleges generally consider unweighted since schools weigh their GPAs differently.
Hey everyone! I applied early action to the SFS for the Business and Global Affairs major.
I got a 1470 on my SATs (3rd attempt tho lol), ranked 11/402, and have a weighted GPA of 4.456. I didn’t take any SAT subject tests and just sent in my AP scores instead (4 5s and 2 4s). I have pretty strong extracurriculars and letters of recs and I’m also a first gen so that helps. Georgetown is definitely my top school so I’m really hoping they like what I have to offer lol.
Did you guys get an email for interviews? I submitted the first application in June and never got one. Good luck to everyone applying!
@MaloMoriQuamFoedari Hmm, there might just not be any alums in your area. Do you mind sharing what state you are from? I would also suggest emailing or calling admissions to double-check. I live in a pretty small/secluded town in the midwest and got my interviewer’s contact information about a week after I submitted the first application (last week of September), and had my interview a few days later.
@buckybarnesx the closest place for me to take the subject tests is an hour away, which isn’t exactly easy to do when you don’t have a car. I’ll see what I can do though. I got a 29 on the English portion of the ACT. They said that they weigh standardized tests, extracurriculars, and class rank/GPA equally when I visited the school, though I’m wondering how the interviews/essays and socioeconomic status go into it as well. I’ll see if I can do more research into it, thank you.
@MaloMoriQuamFoedari I haven’t been informed of my interview yet and it’s been a few weeks for me since sending that part of the application in. I’m not sure how long it typically takes.
Thanks guys. I live in a small town in Pennsylvania but its not a far drive to more populated cities. I did email the admissions team but they only left an automated email response so I’ll give them a call tomorrow.
