Georgetown College vs. SFS

My daughter’s dream school is SFS, she’s going to REA to SFS, however we heard SFS is hard to get in, so we are thinking maybe we just REA Georgetown college first and then transfer to SFS if she gets in? Does this sound like a right strategy?

No. No guarantee she will be able to transfer. If she wants SFS, she should apply SFS.

If there were an easy way in, don’t you think everyone would try?

If I recall correctly, a similar post was made on CC a year or two ago.

OP: Why not ask Georgetown admissions office if you can do so without identifying the applicant ? This should be a common question fielded by the Georgetown admission folks.

I know that some highly selective universities make transferring among schools easy, while it is quite difficult to do so at other schools,

The Class of 2021 admissions numbers by school from “The Hoya” the Georgetown newspaper:

Georgetown College admitted 1,886 students out of 16,709 applicants, an 11.3% acceptance rate compared to last year’s admit rate of 15.4%. The Walsh School of Foreign Service admitted 598 students out of 4,516 applicants, reporting an acceptance rate of 13.2% compared to last year’s admit rate of 14.7%. The McDonough School of Business saw the largest decline in acceptances from last year, accepting 519 students out of 4,611 applicants, an admit rate of 11.3% compared to last year’s rate of 16.9%. The School of Nursing and Health Studies admitted 223 students out of 1,814 applicants, marking a 12.3% acceptance rate compared to last year’s admit rate of 16.3%

As you can see all the schools are pretty close. My advice like the early poster, is to apply to SFS if that’s your applicant’s preference.

If she wants SFS she should definitely apply to SFS, not the College. While the University has general requirements (2 philosophy, 2 theology, etc.), the schools have different curricula and, while things may have changed somewhat since I was there, my freshman year classes/requirements in SFS were very different from my roommate’s classes in the College. Also, AO’s are looking for fit and if her interest is SFS it is likely her application would be more appealing to SFS. Good luck!
