Georgetown Deferred EA applicants

Question on how this process works…does only your area rep see your app? And if he/she deems it worthy it’s then sent to DC? Or is it sent to DC in the first place? Where does the area rep come in? Forgive me if this is a stupid question, I just don’t know how the review process works.

From what I understand, the area rep compares your application with other local applicants. I believe the rep will narrow things down there (takes out those who shouldn’t be applying) and probably adds two sense on who he/she thinks is strong. Then those applicants are sent to DC for review. Don’t quote me on it though. I don’t know how the process works firsthand and I heard this from another school.

how would one go about finding who their local area representative is?

Thanks

I just called the main number and asked.

should we send a letter to GU admissions or just the area rep?

I’m CCing mine to both…anything to make sure it gets there.

Big respect for the dedication that you guys are showing. Faith, if it is strong enough, can overcome fate.

for any updates do we just email the rep?

do we have to call to find the email? or is there a direct email address that I could use to add additional info to my application after getting deferred?

I already knew my rep’s email because she emailed me when my transcripts were missing. But when I called and they told me my rep’s name they also gave me her email without my asking.

so i guess the person who contacts you is the person in charge?
thanks, then i know who mine is. ill email now, thanks :D

So would it be best to call the admissions office to ask for our rep’s email and phone number so we can ask about our deferral? Or could we ask the admissions office questions about our deferral?

A little late but got deferred.
Didn’t open letter until days after received it so I guess I had prepared myself for the worse. But, it’s better than getting outright rejected? I guess thin envelopes aren’t good signs. But anyone have advice for what kind of info you have to update them with? Do you recommend or have to redo the application? Can you request a second interview?..I feel that would help me bc my interview took place on the phone and was awkward and impersonal, so i felt it was hard for them to get to know me and my personality.

I don’t know if you can redo the interview, but you can definitely rewrite the essays. An admissions officer told me that.

Couple of questions myself:
-Should I send my new SAT scores? I pulled my composite above 2200, but literally all my improvement was in writing, which Georgetown says they don’t care about. Will the higher composite still help?
-I have 2 brand-new essays I’ve used for other schools. One was my Common App essay, for the most influential person topic, about my dad who died when I was little. The other is one I used for several supplements about my homeschooling, and how I planned my high school studies. It explains that my coursework was very rigorous even though I have fewer APs than most people, which was a weakness in my original app.

I would send the new scores - anytime but could help!

I got deferred, and like any type of rejection, it sucks. But luckily, I also received my acceptance letter from Notre Dame on the same day, so I think I’ll be fine (tbh, I prefer ND over Gtown).

For those of you who are still stuck in the hell that is college admissions, I truly sympathize with you and wish you the best of luck. One of my best friends recently got rejected by her dream school (Northwestern), and she was really disappointed at first, but now she is extremely excited over attending U of Missouri. So I guess what I’m trying to say is, if you put in the work in high school (and I’m guessing you did since you applied to Georgetown), things will work out for you as long as you stay strong and don’t give up.

Good luck guys, no matte where you end up!

does anyone know how many of the 6,000 or so applicants got deferred

5220ish. I think they were at a 13% acceptance rate for 2013 EA, which is incredibly low, even for a school as selective as Georgetown.

Yea, 5970 were deferred.
