Does one of these already exist? Just a general, all-topics, we-have-to-wait-45-more-days-oh-god, Early applicants thread. If so, please link me! If not, here it is. Let discussion begin.

Thanks for starting this I’m EA for SFS! I’m submitting my app tomorrow night or early Saturday I’ve already had my interview too (2012 grad)! I’m planning on focusing Asian Regional Studies did you fill in the special talent and did you do it as another essay? Also have you been able to see if your transcripts, recs, or test scores have been received? I only have my in process app on my application account so I’m hoping they got there/ will get there in time~! Can’t wait for mid December I’m from MA btw Hispanic female who loves Korean culture haha

Cannot wait to hear back from Georgetown EA!

is it a significant disadvantage to only have 2 SAT subject tests? :O

does anyone know how significant subject tests are in the admissions process? i’m worried my lower scores may be the reason they defer me especially because i applied for business and just learned last night that they recommend taking math 2 for that (which i didn’t)!

also, any idea if we get an official e-mail saying our application is complete? I think my counselor submitted everything, but I would like a guarantee!

I got an official email for each time my counselor or my teachers submitted the application. Also goodluck to everyone
I wish you all the best! What did you guys put for special skills or talents that you possess? I jot down things that weren’t too serious considering my resume’ flaunts my skills already. How was the essay writing process for you guys? I’m still working on my last one for Georgetown College!

I’m EA for SFS too! I filled in the special skills just as a sentence about each of my skills plus one sentence listing silly things like being really good at eating carbs and drawing animals on snapchat because I was two seconds away from submitting and kinda just went with it.
I got email confirmation for each rec that was submitted, but nothing else.
I’m studying abroad right now so I won’t get to have an interview, unfortunately might ask for a skype interview or something - do you think it’s too late or nah?

You may be able to get an interview still @lunascreatures I’ve heard of there being international gtown alumni associations. Just depends on the country that’s part of the reason why I didn’t study abroad… I’ve had 4 interviews already for my 4 top schools and I wouldn’t have been able to if I had studied abroad also, did anyone see the November 3rd deadline extension ? Does that apply to online apps as well? :3

I’m in Macedonia, and they just told me my interview was waived when I explained - I don’t think there’s an association near me and I can’t find it anywhere online! But studying abroad is so worth not having interviews…faaaar outweighs it.

D is finishing up her app now (despite our best efforts to get it in “early”)…lol…so while she’s working, im thinking about the small things…like the photo that Georgetown requests…what type of image did you all use?

Haha @lunascreatures I love studying abroad too! I did it once for Costa Rica and twice for South Korea I could have done my senior year in korea but then I would have had to complete all of my college stuff overseas and I didn’t have anyone really trustworthy to make sure my stuff got to colleges in time >> my school is using naviance for the first time and my account doesn’t work, along with other students, so I have to make sure my things are mailed properly… Then there are the scholarship interviews that I have to have in person >> I miss korea but my peace of mind is worth staying in the U.S.!

If my counselor sent her stuff by mail it won’t show up in the application as “complete” right? Thats what my counselor said… but i’m still paranoid lol. How will I know if GU got my stuff?

Hey! It would not show up complete due to the fact that your counselor did not use the electronic form. But I called Georgetown and specifically asked them if its okay if one of my professors can send in recommendation through paper form and my guidance counselor would send it electronic for the school report. They said it is totally fine. Also, don’t worry about it if the document is not delivered to Georgetown in November 1st, as long as it is POSTMARKED during or before Nov. 1, you’ll be fine. The only way you can know is to call Georgetown itself. Its easy and fast! Hope it helped. Best of luck to you!

@SouthernHope I just used a picture I had of me in front of some flowers where my face was reasonably smiley! One my mom took of me on my phone - it was the first thing I found and I went with it rather than the terrifying mugshot that is my passport picture.

And @seoulbound what programs did you go with/what durations? I’m looking at doing a gap year so I’m shopping around for more study abroad programs. Preferably scholarship ones

@lunascreatures I did SPI Costa Rica for 2 weeks, CIEE South Korea for 2 weeks and NSLI-Y South Korea for 6 weeks. NSLI-Y was the one that I had the option to do a year for, but I decided to do summer instead. All three were free for me! NSLI-Y apps are closed right now I think. YES Abroad and the other german one ( CBYX or something) may still be open for apps! They are all free. I didn’t know if you were already on the YES Abroad one! Global Citizen year is a gap year program in some south america countries depending on your income, it can be free! My friend is currently in Brazil on it! I’m considering a gap year as well Just have to see how scholarships play out!

@seoulbound ah yes I’m very familiar with YES/NSLI/CBYX. Interviewed for all of them, accepted to CBYX and YES, currently on YES - so no chance of doing another one of them. I’ve been looking at global citizen year (which is cool but…money) and a few other programs - we’ll see what happens!

…any chance you’re in the infamous NSLI-Y facebook group? if so, I’ve probably seen you around.

So…I just only now saw that Georgetown’s EA policy is that you cannot apply ED to any other school, but I’ve already submitted my EA app for Georgetown and my ED app for a different school through the CommonApp. Will they both rescind my app? Will they even find out since Georgetown isn’t CommonApp?? Pls help…

Make a choice now, email the other school, and ask to switch to RD because you realized that another school’s agreement does not permit you to apply EA or ED there. Don’t leave it like it is!
