Georgetown EA 2019 Thread

Does anyone have any idea when the northeast (Boston area specifically) usually receives the letters?

Are any of you considering gap years?

@lunascreatures‌ well, I’m actually a semi-finalist for NSLIY! So if I get that then I think I’ll definitely be making some tough decisions come April.

I had a pretty terrible interviewer. He went to gtown for law school and could not answer any questions. He had no questions prepared beforehand and it was obvious. The worst of it…he told me he did interviews for penn also and told me to apply there! We talked about Penn more than Georgetown. I was furious.

FYI everyone. On the Georgetown Admissions site Gtwn has posted (I suspect either today or yesterday- since I check frequently) the notice confirming that the EA Notification date is Dec. 15 and that letters will go out a few days in advance of that date. This is a new post that was not there a few days ago. Best of luck to everyone.

Virginia… just depends on how quick your mail comes honestly.

@writeallnight I 100% recommend you defer college and take NSLI-Y. exchange is fantastic and FREE exchange is even more so.
which language are you applying for? and good luck on your interview!

@lunascreatures‌ thank you! I haven’t been contacted about it yet, but I’m excited! Arabic is my first choice (morocco would be incredible) and Turkish my second. Do you expect to achieve fluency after this year? At the very least, if I get denied from Gtown but into nsliy, I can always reapply next year!

Hey everyone!
I just had a quick question - I know that Georgetown is a jesuit school but I put down agnostic on my application. I’ve never really cared about religion and I was driven to apply to GU for every reason but the fact that it is jesuit. Do you guys think that it will hurt my chances that I am not Catholic?

it is what it is

do they announce what day the letters are mailed?

if I had to guess, i’d say Thursday afternoon…with some (but very few) folks getting their letters on Saturday and most on monday.

@cw1114 no, i dont think it will hurt you. It would probably at somewhere like Notre Dame but gtown is considered one of the more liberal Catholic schools. It might help you because it adds diversity.

From last year’s early action thread I gathered this much.

Letters were sent on Thursday, December 12

On Friday, most people in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area got their letters

On Saturday, most people in the NJ/NYC/PA/NoVa/NC/SC/DE area got their letters with some in OH and CT receiving letters as well

Most others found out on Monday

is it true that it is actually harder to get accepted early action than regular decision?? I read somethings online and now i’m freaking out even more!!!

You know, they could avoid this discussion by switching to an online system. From what I read here it just seems to be to agonizing in 2014 not to know when exactly you are going to get your decision.

On that note, how thick is the Georgetown acceptance letter? Is it a regular-sized envelope.

I’ve heard it’s a regular-sized envelope, not super thick, but with a visible blue paper inside. Deferrals are regular-sized and thin with no blue.

The deferral letter is incredibly thin. The acceptance letter is thicker … has like 3 sheets of paper as opposed to one.

lol now I feel the nervousness and anxiety

It is harder to get in right away, because all candidates are deferred and reconsidered for regular decision. However, overall the acceptance rate is more or less the same, at least according to Georgetown.
