Why you think you were accepted/deferred:
I’m sad to say that I got deferred:( It’s definitely disappointing because I was really thinking I might get in EA but oh well.
I really am just dying to hear success stories (everyone I know got deferred!) and just talk about georgetown.
Here are my stats:
-Latina living in the southern US
-4.0 unweighted, like 4.5 weighted on 5 point scale
-34 act
-9 aps with all 5s on the tests I’ve taken
-president of 2 clubs and founder of one, etc etc your basic nhs
-editor of school newspaper and bass guitarist
This is interesting that you didn’t submit your act score. Isn’t it required by GTown that you submit all of your test scores? Maybe I’m mistaken. Huge congrats though!!!

does anyone have suggestions for where I could improve? do I have chances of getting accepted in the RD pool since it is still competitive?
Congrats to those accepted! Those deferred - wishing you the very best in the RD round. Honestly, looking at the stats of everyone, it really seems like a lottery.

Hmmm, that’s interesting. I wish I had known that as well, but I didn’t think to call because the website said that all test submissions were required. I wouldn’t have submitted my 1480 and only my 35 because that’s saving $20 and also a 35 is better.
Weren’t they “test optional” unless you have a chance to take the tests? 3 SATs and 1 ACT test date was cancelled for me, which I indicated. My counsellor told me it would me fine… I was deferred btw.
Okay, awesome. On a separate note, do you know anything about the Letter of Continued Interest? Gtown is my first choice and I’ll know of some new grades in a couple of weeks, so should I send these in a letter to them? Is it worth sending if I don’t really have any new updates (extracurricular wise), except a new job? Who should I address it to, if you know?
I would send the letter right away. Sure, include the grades and new job, but especially emphasize that GT is still your #1 choice and say why. Two years ago my S19 was deferred and waited a month to send his LCI (despite many reminders). He was waitlisted during RD and still wonders if that made a difference.
Georgetown adopted a text-flexible policy this year. Meaning that you are welcome to apply without scores however, if you have taken the tests then you are required to submit them.
Per their website, " Georgetown accepts both the SAT and ACT. Please note that we do not participate in Score Choice and require submission of an applicant’s entire testing record, if one is available. Students who are not able to submit scores from either test due to the COVID-19 pandemic are welcome to apply for admission to the Class of 2025 without the tests."
I know that Georgetown has a lower than typical acceptance rate for EA compared to other competitive schools (where statistically students have a higher chance of acceptance if they apply EA/ED). Does anyone have any idea as to whether a deferral on EA to Georgetown is really the same as a gentle denial (as it is at most other schools?) Or is there still a legitimate chance for admission if this occurs?
As far as I know there is definitely a legitimate chance. 10% of those deferred during EA get accepted RD. I contacted the alum that interviewed me and she said she was deferred and later got in.
Deferred
Applied Econ
-3.8 Unweighted, 4.3 Weighted GPA
-34 ACT
-Two Sport Varsity Athlete - all four years for tennis
-Plenty of other ECs - mostly around volunteering
Question about the letter of continued interest: should I send it to the guadmiss@georgetown.edu email directly, or should I upload it as an extra material on my application so they can see it when they’re reading the application again for RD?
S21 is amazed by the followup to his EA acceptance. He has received phone calls from a local alum and someone at the college and two handwritten cards congratulating him. I guess with EA (vs ED) GT understands that students still have a choice to make and want to encourage prospective students.
It is still S21’s first choice, but I really, really want him to see the campus. We will head up there the first week in April, even if it is still shut down. Anyone think there is a chance that he could meet with someone there unofficially?
My daughter first sent her continued interest letter to guadmissions and got a form letter back that everything must go thru the portal. She created a letter as a pdf and uploaded it. I hope that helps.
My Niece was accepted EA to Georgetown. Can someone posts in this thread once they receive their financial aid package. We were told it would come the first or second week in January if you submitted all of your FAFSA/CSS docs by November 1st, which we did. Thanks !
