@srinivs I agree. Test scores are not everything. In fact, at GU they seem to be the least important part of the application. A standardized test doesn’t really say what kind of student or person you truly are, nor does it really say whether you would be a good fit at their school. It can be manipulated with prep classes and tutors too. My math and reading combined was a 1380 and I didn’t even have subject tests. I was accepted last night…
You’re right - it has been awhile to remember specifics! His SAT was roughly 2150, grades were very good, but not perfect. He did take a few AP courses, and his high school didn’t offer nearly as many as some do (he took AP Lang, AP Chem, AP Calc, and maybe one other). He did well enough on them that he placed out of having to take any math or science courses at G’town. He definitely took the most challenging courses that his high school offered. He was reasonably involved in ECs, but wasn’t president of his class or president of student gov’t. He did start what turned out to be a thriving club at his school. Like all of you, his recommendations were stellar. He’s just a very well-rounded young man. Once deferred, he continued to do well his senior year (though he really wrote off any hopes of G’town). At the end of the day, he got accepted everywhere he applied. I think he was smart in that he applied to a really nice mix of schools, from a very small public liberal arts college, to UNC-CH (our state flagship), to GW, to G’town, to NYU. He was lucky to get into all of them, but G’town was always his top choice. He would have been happy at any of the schools where he applied, and that’s the trick to this entire process, I think.
@201698 I wasn’t deferred yet, actually - I haven’t received my decision yet. I’m just saying - people should play by the rules. Those who don’t shouldn’t get in. Period. If you didn’t double check that you followed Georgetown’s rules, sucks for you - the rest of us did and submitting my lower SAT score probably hurt my chances.
Yes school’s cancelled for me because of snow!!! Now I can sit by my mailbox all day…haha
@ronaldthecat Same!!! Only in Colorado
@2016senior2020 I hope we can still get mail today…
@ronaldthecat ugh I know…
Where are the admission statistics? Like which school accepted the most students, etc.
@2016senior2020 That is a very critical point of view to have. Human error is inevitable, and preventing someone admittance because of a mistake that, in the end, isn’t the determining factor, would be pretty ridiculous. I truly do hope you’re also lucky enough to gain admittance, and if you’re not, keep in mind that test scores simply aren’t everything.
@fhgirl16 Congrats!!
But yeah, I don’t think test scores are that important to Georgetown. Personally, as I’m rereading my essay, I feel as if those were likely a very important part of the application- each was about a page long, and were very different, interesting topics. I think the essays were probably a large part of decisions.
Hello friends. Current Georgetown student here. I’m procrastinating studying for finals right now, so feel free to ask me anything.
@JoeGoe if we live in the south and did not get a letter or call it’s probably a done deal tonight right, meaning we are deferred.
Still haven’t received anything either. I thought someone said yesterday that we could call at noon today if we hadn’t received a decision. Is that true?
@INeedAnswers2 they’re calling from 6-8 tonight and 7-9 tomorrow
@Gradsmom2016 I know for a fact the calling is still going on through tomorrow (Wednesday). I didn’t do any calling yesterday, but my friends here said that they mostly called states on the eastern seaboard. Places as far west as, for example, Texas were not called. Regardless of decision, you should be getting a letter no matter what. My friend called a girl yesterday from New York who hadn’t gotten her letter yet to congratulate her on getting in, so nothing is final until you have your letter.
@INeedAnswers2 I vaguely remember last years applicants calling admissions after a few days and getting decisions over the phone. You could always try!
@INeedAnswers2 I just called the admissions office since I didn’t receive the letter today. They said they are not giving out admission decisions over the phone until tomorrow because many regions in the country have not received their decisions yet. I’m in GA if that helps.
Mail just came in Colorado, nothing from Georgetown. This is driving me crazy!
Hey guys! Class of 2019 College student here! I’m writing to you all from the Hilltop right now, trying to avoid writing my final paper lol. Just wanted to say congrats to everyone who got in! And for those who got deferred, don’t worry, I was going through the exact same thing last year and it’s the worst, I get it, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. You will go where you are supposed to and it’ll be an amazing experience I’m sure! Good luck everyone!
does anybody know if they send acceptance and deferral letters at the same time, or if they sent acceptance first?
