Strengths: Essays and commitment to my ECs.
Weaknesses: TEST SCORES!!!
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I have no clue but I am very grateful to them for giving me a second shot! I plan to submit another ACT score, so that will hopefully help me out.
Where else you are applying or have already applied: State flagships (accepted), Notre Dame EA (rejected), Georgetown SFS EA (deferred), UMichigan LSA EA (also deferred). RD: USC, Berkeley, UCLA, Wake Forest, American, Boston College, Johns Hopkins, Brown, Cornell
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight:
Congratulations to everyone who was accepted!!

To all those who are deferred: I know it is frustrating (I have three of them) but I am trying to stay positive and wish everyone the best!

To all those rejected: Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to this process (look at my stats and decisions!), but know that we will all end up where we are meant to end up!

To future applicants: At the end of the day the process is so random that it is best to stay true to yourself. I spent years trying to guess what the AdCom wanted to see on paper, and I finally realized at the beginning of this year that I needed to just be me. All of you are amazing individuals who will change the world in some way and will end up at the right school for YOU! Admissions can be a tough pill to swallow but if you do your best and keep working on those grades and test scores, you should feel accomplished for even trying!

General Comments: This is my dream school… Perfect location, perfect atmosphere, amazing architecture, amazing faculty and intense education standards. I really hope to get accepted RD.

I am so happy I do not have a DREAM school. I like a lot of places but have not attached my hopes to just one. I personally think deferred means no most of the time so on to the next one. Hopefully you have cast your net widely and planned wisely and you have several great choices in the end. It’s college guys. It’s all good.

At Georgetown, I believe everyone who is not admitted EA is deferred, so “deferred” just means you didn’t get in EA. It is HARDER to get admitted EA than RD, unlike most schools, so you could quite possibly get in EA.

Confirmed- Georgetown does not deny EA applicants.

And I think what Daddio3 meant was that you might have a good chance of getting in RD- getting in EA is impossible now

When is this year’s GAAP weekend? Which days in march? I can’t find it on a calendar anywhere

Decision: Deferred (Georgetown College)

Objective:
SAT I and/or ACT (breakdown): 2370 - 800 CR, 790 W, 780 M
SAT II (place score in parentheses): History 720, Math II 690, Physics 640

AP (place score in parentheses): AP English Composition (5), AP US History (4), AP US Gov (4), AP Physics I (3)
IB (place score in parentheses): N/A
Senior Year Course Load: AP Calculus AB, AP Physics II, AP Statistics, AP English Literature, AP Psychology, online computer course (graduation requirement)
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Scholar Commended, AP Scholar with Honor

Subjective:

Student Government (School President), School Social Media (run the whole thing myself), Students Helping Honduras, National Honor Society, manage 3 varsity sports

Job/Work Experience:
Volunteer/Community Service: Political work, Boy Scout stuff
Summer Activities: Work!
Essays: Why Georgetown was like 6/10. Other 2 were 10/10
Teacher Recommendations: Math and Physics teachers, both of whom I’m very close with. 9/10
Counselor Rec: She likes me a lot and knows a lot about me, 9/10
Additional Rec: N/A
Interview: My interviewer LOVED Georgetown, and since my brother goes there I was able to talk about a lot of student life stuff. Pretty much took her on a nostalgia trip but also got across that I was very bright.

Other
Applied for Financial Aid? Yes
Projected Concentration: Government
State/Country: NJ
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: ~$100k
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): My brother is a current student

Reflection
Strengths: Test scores, extracurriculars (Not numerous but each of them I’m very involved with. I’ve had several articles written about me for what I do with the school and sent them all to Georgetown)
Weaknesses: Grades, Why Georgetown essay. I also don’t have some of the “prestigious awards” but that’s because I never had time to apply for them (Honestly there are some awards on here I never knew existed. I’ve always been more of a doer than an academic)
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Grades are low
Where else you are applying or have already applied: Accepted to Rutgers, Minnesota and New Hampshire; UNC, Dartmouth, Cornell, Hamilton, Ohio State, TCNJ, Syracuse.

Hope I have better luck in the RD pool, and best of luck to all of you as well!

@c0llegeb0und The GAAP weekened is March 18th and 19th.

Accepted (SFS) but unlikely to attend as I have high financial need. Georgetown meets full need but the EFC and loans are higher than I have been led to believe I will receive elsewhere. Great place. Love it. But must face reality. I need speak to admissions and financial aid and they were wonderful but admitted that they had much more limited resources than the other places I am applying.

Has anyone else received another letter from the Office of the President about their acceptances?

@turquoisedonut

Just wondering… Are you a deferred student from ED ROUND?

I have received another (really personalized too!) letter from admissions, I was accepted EA

@turquoisedonut I didn’t get anything from the president after being accepted EA, but I did receive a highly personalized holiday card from my regional admissions representative (which I assume is what @c0llegeb0und is talking about).

@2016senior2020 I got that card too, but I’m referring to a letter that came in a business envelope this friday ( i live on the east coast, so I may have received it early) in which was a letter from the office of the president about some programs at georgetown that are specific to me/my application.

@c0llegeb0und Oh, nice! I live in the Midwest so maybe that one just hasn’t made it out here yet!

For @2016senior2020 or anyone else theres also a whole thread about those letters, so if you got one/want to know more check this thread
