Hi! I’m first gen with an 1540/1600 on SAT 96.1 W GPA / 100. Top 10% of my class with most rigorous courses. 1 student gets into georgetown almost every year from my school. 3s and 4s on my AP tests a 690 on lit SAT II and 760 on math 1. My main issue is ecs:
JV Cheerleading 9 Captain 10-11 Coaches award 11
JV Softball 9-10
Varsity Softball 11
Mission Outreach (service club)
Student Council
Summer Camp Volunteer (300 hours)
New York State Science Honor Society
Tutoring
NHS
peer ministry
national merit scholar
ap scholar
part time job
my ecs are very time consuming. I could try to add some things before january such as shadowing a doctor (aspiring premed) or starting a club at my school about medical sciences but do you guys think what I have now is good enough?
@a20171 - I think you have enough to go for it now. You have the SAT score and seem to have the GPA, even though I do wonder what your UW GPA is. I think you have plenty of ECs. Also, Georgetown likes to see 3 SAT subject tests in the RD round but doesn’t mind if you do not have them in the SCEA. Good luck!
Hmm… your stats are really good so you definitely have a chance but i’ve heard that early actions rounds have more competitive students that RD. if you’re worried about your ECs, wait until RD so you have a better chance.
@a20171 You will need to check with your Georgetown Admissions Counsellor and your high school’s Guidance Counsellor to check what GU’s procedures are.
However, as a general rule of thumb, for Unis where you are deferred (or waitlisted) you are then given a golden opportunity to write to the Admissions Counsellor and update them on any new information that will support your application such as updated grades, school honors, sports achievements, ECs, etc. As far as I know with Georgetown, everyone who does not get admitted EA gets deferred to the RD round.
