So I know that GU is known for being one of the only schools to accept less people in the early round as opposed to the regular round of college admissions. Even though they accept less people early, is it actually harder to get in, since everyone who is “rejected” early gets deferred? I was curious because I am thinking about applying there early.

No you won’t be penalized.
Remember, those who get deferred still have another shot in the regular round
If Georgetown wants you it will take you EA. Make sure to check your school’s Naviance and talk to past applicants from your area. Some high schools have excellent track records of getting their kids in, others don’t so you need to be an exceptionally good fit to earn an offer.
The EA acceptance rate is slightly lower than RD. However, everyone else gets deferred and the deferred pool has the same acceptance rate RD as regular RD. So really, about twice as many people get in that applied EA but that includes an overall stronger pool along with athletes, etc. If Georgetown is your #1 though, there is no downside to applying EA since the worst case scenario is being deferred to RD anyways.
