Georgetown says the first one is a "short essay," but how long is that really in terms of word count? They then say that the essays should be "approximately one page," but is this based on size 12 font, is it double spaced? I just don't want to give them something to short and unsatisfactory, or too long and rambling.

Bump. This is important.

Hello! I got into Georgetown this year under the early action program. My “short essay” was a full page, single spaced, Times New Roman size 12 font. But substance is much more important than word count or length, so if you can make your point in one page double-spaced or three-quarters of a page single-spaced, I doubt the admissions office will care. Definitely avoid being “long and rambling,” but make sure you give details, as those are what really can set you apart from other applicants who may be writing on a similar topic.
Good luck!

@Cicero1 Well, firstly, congratulations! Thank you so much, this advice is really helpful. How long were your “essays” then though?

@csglen: So my personal statement was 650 words exactly (it was the same one I used for the Common App), my “short essay” about an activity/EC was about 575 words, and my “Why Georgetown College” essay was about 450-500 words.

@Cicero1 I go to a Catholic school and we have a class Facebook page for notes. Typically when someone is this helpful they get a “bless your soul,” or “bless your kind soul,” so bless you for this. Thanks for being so helpful!

@csglen: You’re very welcome! Have a wonderful Christmas, and best wishes for Georgetown!

@csglen Just wanted to second these, I got into Georgetown early as well and my essays were around the same length as @Cicero1’s

Thank you again @Cicero1, and also thank you @vballgurl. Merry Christmas.
