I'm applying to the school of foreign service, and the question is: Briefly discuss a current global issue; indicating why you consider it important and what you suggest should be done to deal with it.

I've seen essays on Darfur, post-communist nations, etc. So I suppose the issue doesn't have to be directly global (such as global warming, etc.)

I was thinking about 1- the difficulty for girls in afghanistan to go to school or 2- Iran and democracy, post-election analysis.

Although these issues aren't directly global, if they're issues outside of national politics is that okay?

Thanks in advance!
