So I was accepted into Georgetown's MA program in International Law and Global Security in the Department of Government. I was just wondering how the program is viewed. I know SFS is one of the best IR schools, but global security is what I'm really interested in. If I get into Fletcher or SIAS, how do those compare? Thanks

I have to give this one to Georgetown. The program is viewed as the best in the country among academic circles (Fletcher, of course, is not far behind at number 4), it has a prime location, and it has such a powerful name association with the field. Obviously you can’t go wrong with either Georgetown or Tufts, but I personally feel that Georgetown does have the slight edge academically. As for SIAS, while the experience would certainly be beneficial to you, I honestly haven’t heard the program talked about all that much (in academic circles, at least) to make a firm judgment on its overall quality. I would have to suggest, to be safe, making Georgetown and Tufts your first and second choices, respectively.

I should probably be more clear. The International Law MA is NOT in SFS. It’s in the department of government like the IR PhD program. I was more wondering if that changes the perception of the program or because it’s still IR based at Georgetown it’ll carry clout. Thanks for the help

I don’t expect that will make any difference at all - anything IR from Georgetown is going to have a ton of clout.
