Georgetown Interview?

What kinds of questions did your interviewers ask you? How should I/ anyone else applying RD prepare for our upcoming interview?

I applied EA (and was deffered). My interview was really quite casual and not worth stressing over. It was more of a conversation than a question-answer-session. She asked me one question that she said she had to ask which was: “what sets you apart from other smart kids, etc.” Good luck!

For starters, definitely don’t stress out over the interview, it’s a very minor part of the application and it’s highly unlikely to make you or break you. According to my advisor it’s mostly to make sure you’re normal and not a crazy person, like an in-person psych-check. (That may be incredibly politically incorrect, but that’s what I heard.)

For me, especially 'cause I didn’t get a chance to visit before applying, the interview was a great way to get to know more about what the school is like from a students POV. It’s less biased than an admission officer’s because they don’t really have an interest in you going to the school except as a proud alum.

My interviewer told me about things she used to do at G-town that were exactly the kind of things that I want to do there, so that served as a kind of bonding opportunity after we got past the basics. I think asking the interviewer questions about their experience and specific questions regarding things that you want to do is an excellent way of both communicating yourself and your interests to them, and getting them to like you, and showing interest in the school (a 3-for-1 if you may).

Just keep in mind that G-town interviewers are alumni, and not trained professionals, so each one will probably have a different approach. I got lucky with my interviewer and we meshed well but I have friends who didn’t connect as easily with theirs. Try to get a sense of what the interviewer’s style is and go from there.

Most importantly be yourself and don’t be pretentious in any way. Good luck!

:)

I applied EA and was accepted.

My interview was very casual, and it mostly revolved around my interests and reasons for wanting to attend Georgetown. I was also able to ask my interviewer questions about Georgetown, which was very helpful. As long as you can talk (clearly and concisely), this interview shouldn’t be a big deal.

Good luck!

My interviewer seemed to have some sort of checklist. Idk if the school gave it to her or if she made it up herself. She started off with my personal background and the first question was to talk about my family. Then she moved on to academics, ECs, etc. She also asked whether I had ever been to the campus or to DC.

Just curious: how long were your interviews? Mine was about 25 minutes, but my older sister’s was much longer.

Mine DRAGGED on for about an hour. It was rather disappointing as my interview and I were polar opposites, so I couldn’t really present myself in the light I wanted. My best advice is not to preplan and go in cold turkey because you never really know who your interviewer is going to be and what they are going to ask.

My interview went very well! We talked for a whole hour! I got a lot of good advice from her! She studied exactly what I want to study. She even speaks French like I do!
