I have my Georgetown alumni Interview next week and I was wondering if there were any specific things I should be aware of research ahead of time. What types of questions do they normally ask and what aspects of Georgetown should I try to mention during the interview?
And just any other tips (I’m very nervous)
Thanks!
My son interviewed with Georgetown last year. He said it was very casual–talked about my son’s interests and activities at school. It sounded like the best advice is relax and be yourself. I’m sure it would help if you were prepared to talk about what you like about Georgetown, but don’t stress–they aren’t looking to ding you, just get to know you.
Hey! I just interviewed a couple weeks ago. I think that they are generally interested in finding out more about you, like @FlyerDad said.
Mine was very laid-back and lasted for around an hour and 20 minutes–we had a lot of laughs! We mostly talked about my school activities, hobbies outside of school, my intended major and why, as well as my background (I moved to the US from a southeast asian country four years ago).
My tips for you is based on my research before the interview and my experience in the actual interview:
Do your research. Check out their clubs and activities and mention the ones that excite you. Talk about programs that line up with your interests, why you want to go to a school in DC, and if you can, about their Catholic and Jesuit education. Make sure you are familiar with the school/major you are applying to and know specifically why studying that at Georgetown is the best fit for you. Be yourself, be polite, and come prepared with questions! Also–don’t forget to email your interviewer a thank you letter. Lastly, don’t be nervous, it is very low-pressure and there are no traps or trick questions. Good luck!
I have conducted interviews for Georgetown for over 20 years (not this year because my daughter is applying), and the most important thing you can do is have specific things to say about yourself. If you tell me that French is your favorite class, then be prepared to tell me specifically why- a good story about your French teacher or a connection you’ve made between French and something else important in your life. If you say your favorite EC is Model UN, then I will want to hear about an interesting debate you had at your last Model UN.
One specific question about Georgetown would be good. But I am much more interested in learning about you as a curious, committed student then whether or not you’ve memorized the GU website.
Lastly, relax. The interview is important, but very rarely is it a deciding factor. By the time you get to the interview, you’ve done all the hard work already. Good luck! And Hoya Saxa!
ahh thank you so much! I will try not to be nervous haha
