Georgetown is my #1 and I'm not sure if I have a chance...feedback please :(

SAT: 2160

SAT II:

Math II - 710
Chem - 720

ACT - 33

.....I have alot of extra-curriculars so dont worry about that

Up that math and chem, and you’re golden

georgetown is a reach for anybody. but i would take the sat again - 2160 is a bit of a low score, and a 710 for math 2 isn’t exceptional. but if your ECs are really well developed (not just that the list is long), i definitely wouldn’t say you have no chance. go for it. as long as you keep in mind it’s your reach school and have plenty of other options.

Those SAT scores are NOT low. What is your breakdown of the SAT? Georgetown’s middle 50% of the SAT is 640-740 for CR and 650-750 for math. I am guessing that with your scores you are above 700 (or close) on all of your sub sections of the SAT meaning that a 2160 is actually on the slightly higher than average end for Georgetown.

2230 SAT
2400 SATII
1/50 class rank

is this good enough for georgetown?

make your own thread :)

my SAT break down is…
CR: 650
M:760
WR:750

Bring up CR to 700+ and you’re golden. SAT IIs matter very little for admission; a poster on here (I believe it was glassesarechic?) got into Georgetown with a ~500 on her language SAT II… as a major in that language.

Would apply Early Restrictive action to Georgetown also help my admission chances at all?

I am also concerned that being a public school student could drastically hurt my chances as well. It seems that Georgetown preferes students who attend private high schools.

Not really. You can’t be rejected EA, only deferred.

Not true at all. There are plenty of public school students there.

Sorry for asking so many questions, but Georgetown is where I really want to go. So, if I increase SAT scores 80-100 points, you believe my chanes will be better?

chances* will be better

I’m pretty sure Georgetown wouldn’t take the fact that you went to a public high school into consideration…

Like I know that my school is the best in the district and it’s harder than the others school in the district but UC’s are still required to take the people who apply from the other schools in the district that meet the top 10th percentile even though they go to a school that may not be as good as ours. Like I’m not in the top 10th percentile at my school but if I went to a different school in my district I would… so I’m pretty sure that colleges have to consider everyone regardless of the school you go to.

I mean a lot of the colleges say they don’t take race or religion or sexual preference into account when they apply to college and if they don’t do that then they obviously shouldn’t take into account the fact that you went to a public school instead of a private.

The higher your SAT, the better your chances, yes.

I previously stated I have alot of ECs so don’t worry about them, but I just want to run them by you guys.

-National Honor Society
-Spanish Honor Society
-Cornell University Summer College
-Student exchange to Spain
-Vice President of Spanish Club
-Hindu Sunday School
-Varsity Soccer Team Member
-Club soccer team captain
-worked for family tax preparation business
-Clubs:chess, key club, future business leaders of america, distributive education clubs of america, end racism and sexism everywhere, indian cultural club, ski club

by the way I just wanted to say my GPA is mediocre (B to B+) and I fall in the top 18% in my school.
-over 100 hours community service

So, previously I stated not to worry about by extra-curriculars, but I would like to run them by you guys anyway.

-national honor society
-spanish honor society
-Cornell University Summer College
-student exchange to spain
-vice president of spanish club
-varsity soccer team member
-captain of club soccer team
-Hindu Sunday School
-math team
-worked for family tax preparation business
-Clubs:chess, key club, indian cultural club, future business leaders of america, distributive education clubs of america, end racism and sexism everywhere
-over 100 hours community service

by the way I would like to point out that my GPA is mediocre (B to B+) and I rank in the top 18% of my school.

Please re-evaluate or provide other feedback. Thank you.

Do you have any leadership positions in all the clubs you mentioned, besides VP of Spanish club and soccer captain? You have too many activities that don’t tie into each other. What is your favorite activity that you participate in? Try to tie it into your other activities.

I would keep:
-Spanish Honor Society
-Exchange
-VP of Spanish club
-Club soccer team
-Your job
-100 community service hours
-Cornell program, under the educational info page on the CommonApp (they ask about this type of stuff there, so it’s not really an EC per se)

I’d drop the rest; it seems your main focus is on Spanish, right?

Hope that helps. Good luck!

I want to do business, but I really enjoy being involved in the cultural clubs because of variety and traditions.

bump…

Am I qualified for Georgetown Business School? (take into consideration SAT,ACT,ECs, etc.)
