Georgetown, JHU, Duke WILL CHANCE BACK

Hi everyone!
I am currently a junior in high school and would like to know where I stand.

SAT: 2200 took twice M-770 CR-710 W-720
GPA: 3.98 Unweighted 4.6 Weighted
SAT IIs: none yet :(
Past APs: only US Gov in 10th grade
Current APs: Calc AB, Lang, World
ECs: Horribly pathetic and pretty much non-existant :'( :'( :'(
Staff Writer for School Newspaper (2013-2014)
Youth Advisory Committee (2013-2014)
President of UNICEF Club(2013-2014)
Track and Field (Spring 2013)
That's it.
Basically I had no ECs freshman or sophomore year :(

Also, could you guys give me suggestions on improving ECs or adding more before apps are released in fall?
Should I retake the SAT since my course rigor is so horrible? Most students at my school have 6+ APs :(
If you guys could give me advice on where my profile is lacking that would be much appreciated!

Thanks so much in advance!

Based off your lack of AP’s you must be weighting your honors classes. DONT do that the majority of colleges will not weight them. Your just fooling yourself.

I thought colleges don’t care about weighted GPAs?
Can anyone else please help me with the EC issue?

With your current situation I suggest you do completely unorthodox EC’s. This will distinctly set you apart from the cliché students who just work a soup kitchen.

Any suggestions? Learn how to play a ukulele? Tae Kwon Do? White-water rafting camp?
But actually.

Why would you start an EC now? Unless you’re passionate about it, they’ll see right through you.

All reaches. You need better ECs and harder classes. Take lots of APs senior year.

How many APs? I am currently signed up to take APES, AP Bio, AP Lit, and AP Calc BC.

HELP!! What should I do with my schedule and ECs senior year?

they’re reaches but i think you can still make up your ECs by volunteering out of school and getting leadership positions there (getting a job works too!) and also doing things over the summer. i know there are lots of volunteer opportunities over the summer (though internships are kinda hard to get though…) you can also find a club and that’d automatically give you a leadership position and make you look good.

As cliche as it is, you should do an EC you really like! Don’t do something you don’t care about just to pad your resume. Find something that interests you, anything, and do that. I had few to no EC’s until sophomore year, when I discovered a specific interest I really cared about (in my case, music) and started to do more things related to that, continuing now in junior year. you should do something like that if at all possible.

specific suggestions of ECs? Keep up the track and field, if you can–i know it’s a spring sport, but join cross country in the fall maybe (if your school has that.) You could also volunteer tutor, get a summer job, apply for an internship, etc. if you have an idea that you’re passionate about, you could start an organization related to it or do something unorthodox like that to make yourself stand out, but don’t make something up just for the sake of having another EC. that’s unnecessary and will seem obvious.

For those schools definitely do SAT II’s. I know Georgetown, specifically, wants you to take 3, which is a lot. The dates you have left are June and October, and you can do more than one on the same date, so you have plenty of time. That said, you can’t do the SAT on the same day as an SAT II, so plan carefully; unless you do all 3 SAT II’s on one day with no chances to redo them, you won’t be able to retake the SAT before you apply to college. For the record, though, your SAT score is high, so you don’t necessarily need to retake it anyway.

Also, take more APs your senior year, like calvin said. Don’t be worried that you won’t have enough! If you take 4 senior year, as you said you planned to, you’ll have 8 throughout high school, which is great. Plenty of students get into these colleges with fewer than that.
