Georgetown (MSB) vs. BC (CSOM Honors)

Hey,
I was accepted to both Georgetown and BC Honors early action and wanted to get an inside scoop on the business programs, particularly the difference in job placement, connections on Wall Street, etc. I know I will love either school for the four years I attend, I just want to seek the best post-grad situation possible. I am interested in a double major in Finance and Accounting with perhaps a minor in the college, if that’s possible. I know BC is currently ranked higher, but GTown just built a new building so I don’t know.
By the way, I want to work in either Boston or New York if that impacts the decision at all.
Thank you!

If you want to work in NYC, Boston will have more connections than Georgetown. Georgetown is more of a public sector school, while BC has more of a wall street reputation.

Great! Thank you! Anybody else?

Obviously BC will have the stronger alumni network in Boston and a solid one in NYC. While Georgetown probably does have a stronger public sector connection its Finance department has a strong reputation and probably also has a good network in NYC. I would suggest contacting the individual career centers at each school and see what statistics/information they can provide about on-campus employer visits, starting salaries, alumni events etc.

Congratulations on achieving the enviable and “difficult” position of having to decide between two spectacular options.

Thank you vinceh for your, as always, helpful and well thought out advice. I really appreciate it.

redsawx - If you go to the Georgetown site, search “senior survey” and you can get a pretty good overview of placements for G-town graduates from the business programs for the last few years. I’m not sure if BC does the same type of survey, but if you plan to stay in Boston, BC definitely gets the nod. If NY - I think both schools give you want you need, so congrats on having two great schools to choose from.

Thank you!
Ya I couldn’t find anything too specific for Carroll, but I’ll keep looking! I still have the honors presentation in a few weeks so hopefully that’ll answer all my questions.

Georgetown is a better school than BC.
It’s probably biased because you’re asking people in BC.

But since you’re in BC Honors, the quality of education is probably evened out. And although there’s better connections via BC in New York, there’s better connections via Georgetown in DC.

In the end, BC is probably a better school for you, since you’re an aspiring business major. Georgetown is more of a school for political majors.

Ya, I asked people on both boards so the opinions should cancel out.
The thing about both schools is that they have such strong alumni networks, and both are extremely close in the rankings (atleast in finance and accounting), that its nearly impossible to know what’s going to happen in 5 years.

Right now I’m just trying to weight the Wall Street connections and overall business education so that the Street is an option for me down the road.

Thank you so much!

CalvinTBOD: The fact that you are a sophomore in high school comes through in your post. You’re still in that stage where you think there’s a difference between a school that is ranked a few spots ahead of another school. Perhaps Georgetown is more competitive to get into, but you’re simply being ignorant if you think the academics are stronger there. There’s hardly any difference between the academics at the top 50 schools. Also, it’s clear you know nothing about the BC Honors program, too. That’s all.
