I’m shocked!! I really don’t even think I should’ve gotten in, but I am very happy. It’s nice to know that at least one thing worked out for me in this entire college process, since I got waitlisted at my two top choices. After being deferred EA, I had completely written Georgetown off. I am shocked, but happy! Congrats to everyone, and to those who were not admitted, it seems like this entire process is random. You will do greatly wherever you go. Best of luck to everyone!

Congrats to everyone who got in, and best wishes to everyone else! After this week, I can definitely say that things will all come together. :)

Decision: Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2060 Superscore, 700 Writing, 690 CR, 670 Math
[] ACT: 33
[] SAT II: Chem 680, Math I 770, Math II 720

[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Calc AB, Honors Physics, AP Econ, AP Psych, Honors English, Honors Foreign Policy
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): None
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Italian Club (board member), National Honor Society, Student Council one year (representative), NJHS
[] Job/Work Experience: Nearly two years in retail, 20-25 hours a week
[] Volunteer/Community service: Summer camp at a local science museum for the past three summers, over 200 hours of service; vacation bible camp at church for two summers
[] Summer Activities: see above^, also work
[] Essays: Written on a whim, never had them proofread, but when I reread them after submitting the app I thought they were terrible. Wrote about camp volunteering, Chelsea Handler as my role model, bullying, and my visit to the school in relation to my goals for studying there
[] Teacher Recommendation: Great
[] Counselor Rec: Not sure, but don’t know mine well, so probably nothing special
[] Additional Rec: Sent one extra teacher rec that was also very good
[] Interview: Okay. I didn’t think it went well because my interviewer wasn’t very talkative but it may have just been his personality.
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): PA
[] Country (if international applicant): USA
[] School Type: Large public, suburban
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: Enough to apply for aid
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: My gpa and recommendations, possibly the uniqueness of my Chelsea Handler essay.
[] Weaknesses: Test scores and other supplemental essays. Also possibly the interview.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think showing interest in the school makes all the difference. I visited over the summer simply because we were passing through DC and I fell in love. I emailed admissions officers, talked about the school and what I loved about in both my essay and my interview.
[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted at University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, Allegheny College. Waitlisted at University of Michigan and Case Western. Rejected at University of Virginia.[/li][/ul]General Comments: Make sure you show interest in the school. If you have the general academic requirements, you need something to stand out about you. Don’t aim to impress with your personal essay, aim to be original. Also build strong relationships with your high school teachers. Both recommendations that I sent were from two teachers that I’ve had great relationships with and I think that make all the difference. I really hope financial aid works out, because if it doesn’t I may not be able to go.

Good luck to anyone in the future!

School Type:Public
Ethnicity: African American
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: 50,000-60,000
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM and first generation college

Reflection:
Strengths: My essays, recommendations, interview and ecs
Weaknesses: gpa is kind of low but rank is high and SAT scores a little low but they don’t count writing so thats good lol.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think I was accepted because I really portrayed myself in my essays, had great recs and ecs, showed I was more than just my stats.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Rejected: Cornell and Dartmouth
Accepted: SUNY Binghamton, SUNY Albany, SUNY Geneseo, Baruch College, Lehman, Brooklyn College, New York City College of Tech, John Jay, Drexel University, St. John’s, Howard University, Washington College, Mahattanville College and Quinnipiac university
General Comments: I just want to say I’m thoroughly surprised, and this makes me not even care about getting rejected from Dartmouth on the 28th. Oh and I want to tell future seniors that grades and stats are not the end all be all. I don’t have killer or amazing stats, but I think I did a kick ass job on my essays, and if you can show a college your not just some random applicant but a real person it will do wonders for your application. Be unique make them remember who you are.

[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to U.Va., William & Mary, Virginia Tech and Wake. Rejected from Cornell, Dartmouth, Rice. [/ul]

bumping this up for the 2nd round of admissions (Happy Easter/April Fool’s Day)

For the forth time, I have proved myself worthy of my moniker. Rejected SFS. Stats/gpa/ec: not good enough. While I’m happy for everyone who got in, having actually been hit by a car in the past, I can say this feeling is worse. Anyway, go Terps!

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: first gen and maybe the essays
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: waitlisted and rejected at too many colleges to say
General Comments: GU isn’t exactly my top choice but I’m still pumped to be accepted after so many waitlists and rejections. Congrats to those who are accepted and condolences to those who are rejected. I’m sure you have some other great colleges to choose from! As for those who are waitlisted, keep calm and hope for the best.

General Comments:

I reached for the stars but ultimately fell short… I still have a chance to get of this waitlist, even though it is rather minimal, but I now have to wait another month and a half and have to fight off the ever growing force of Senioritis! My grades have gotten better since the mid-year report, though, so hopefully I stand out enough in the wait list process or, dare I saw it, extended wait list… Best of luck to everyone else who got accepted or put on the wait list! And to everyone who didn’t I envy the sense of closure you have after all of this! We will all succeed and ever have this bond of CC in us lol.

[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted UVA/Wash U, Waitlisted Columbia, Rejected Harvard/Yale/Upenn/Brown/Dartmouth[/li]General Comments: Wasn’t really expecting an acceptance due to a horrible senior year GPA (3 B’s out of 5 classes). Overall stoked on the acceptance, but am still considering my other options. Sent a photography portfolio of 15 or so images, but Georgetown isn’t really known for the arts I think so that was kind of random.

[ b]General Comments:
things were not going nearly as we’ll as I had planned with college results(waitlists at a greater number of schools than expected), but Georgetown worked out! The process can lead to disappointing results at first, but just wait until all decisions come out–you might be happily surprised! Georgetown class of 2017  I’m excited!
