[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): HOSA (Co-President), Varisty Golf (Co-Captain), Tutoring Club (Founder, President), Model UN, Robotics Club (Director of Social Media aka I sit on twitter and take pics while other people do math)
[
] Job/Work Experience: nada
[] Volunteer/Community service: Service: 200+ hours at a local hospital, 100 hours at a local museum, 32 hours with the red cross in Spain, 25 hours at my school, 36 hours tutoring
[
] Summer Activities: Volunteered at a local hospital for two years in a row. Worked in the administrative office, and also had the opportunity to observe some surgeries, and the summer before my senior year I spent a month in Spain doing a language program and a home stay.
[] Essays: I used my common app essay, which was about how I started the diversity club at my school as a way for people of different cultural backgrounds to have a platform to express themselves.
My Gtown college essay was about how great their Spanish Program is and also about their accelerated masters in public health <3
[
] Teacher Recommendation: I think both were really good. I chose my math and Spanish teacher, both of whom I’ve had for about two years. I’m doing my extended essay, research paper on a subject and topic of your choosing, with my Spanish teacher so we see each other a lot, and my math teacher was my advisor during my junior year so we’re pretty close as well.
[] Counselor Rec: We talk a lot, and I sit in his office whenever I have a study hall
[
] Additional Rec: nah fam
[li] Interview: I had to drive an hour and half and miss part of school to meet with him, but he treated me to lunch (the sandwich I had was good af), and we bonded over our mutual hatred of our small, southern hometowns, our love of travel and meeting new people, and he gave me some advice on classes to take if I was accepted. [/li]
[] Gender: Male
[
] Income Bracket: >150000
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM[/li]
Reflection
[] Strengths: Decent test scores, solid recommendations, good essays, a lot of stuff related to what I told them I want to study
[
] Weaknesses: GPA is kind of gross, third SAT II is weak, my grades first semester of senior year were kind of sucky compared to how I was doing before (senioritis is real guys)
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred: If I knew why I was accepted, I write down whatever winning combination made the good folks at Georgetown give me the opportunity to kill it in our nation’s capital, and share it with everyone who was waitlisted and denied. I cried as I was opening my letter (shoutout to CC for figuring out the stamp values) and I proceeded to lay on the floor and cry for another 30 minutes until my mom made me get my life together.
[
]Where else you are applying or have already applied:
Accepted: Tulane University (EA), Northeastern University (Honors Program) (RD), Butler (Scholar’s Program) (EA), Rhodes College (RD), University of Michigan (Residential College) (EA), Hampden-Sydney College (EA)
Waitlisted: N/A
Rejected: Columbia University (ED) :(, Yale-NUS, and Duke University
Waiting: Howard University, Princeton University, Dartmouth University, and Yale University
General Comments: This was definitely a confidence booster and a pretty high note to (almost) finish this fresh hell we call the college admissions process. To all my wait listers and kids who were rejected, Georgetown sucks one for making you wait for the letter in the mail that gave you this unfavorable decision, and most importantly for not admitting you. You’re all amazing people, and not going to Georgetown won’t stop you from achieving your dreams.

Other:
Applied for Financial Aid? Yes
State (if domestic applicant): Hawaii
Country (if international applicant): USA
School Type: Private (< 150 students)
Ethnicity: Asian and Caucasian
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: $100K-200K
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): First generation college student

Reflection:
Strengths: Recommendations, obvious ambition for such a small school with limited opportunity, essays
Weaknesses: SAT and subject test scores, course load
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I’m definitely suprised by my result. I think my recs and essays really helped my chances. My Senate internship also played a big role.
Where else you are applying or have already applied: UH Manoa (accepted), UCLA (waitlisted), UCI (accepted), Harvard (rejected), GW (accepted), Georgetown (accepted), AU (waitlisted), CUA (accepted)
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: After looking at the stats on the CC page from last year, I totally did not expect my result. The big takeaway from this is that SAT and subject test scores matter and you need to make sure that you put a lot of effort into them, but so does other things that colleges look for in a student as shown through essays and letters of rec.

Reflection
Strengths: Test scores, GPA, Awards
Weaknesses: Being Indian
Why you think you were accepted/deferred: I really don’t have a clue. Applied as an afterthought and I didn’t think I would get in because the major I had was quite selective and I didn’t really see myself getting it, but this just shows how random this process truly is, and how acceptances/rejections really don’t reflect much on competence after a certain point.

Accepted: UC Berkeley, UCLA, U Miami, UNC Chapel Hill, many others that I don’t have room for
Waitlisted: CWRU, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Wash U, Rice, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth

General Comments: I’m probably going to go to Georgetown barring any unexpected removal from the Columbia or Rice waitlists. Otherwise, Georgetown it is
