Hi all! I’m a high school senior from Texas and I’ve been blessed to be accepted by some great schools. Right now I am torn between Georgetown SFS and a dual BA program between Trinity College Dublin and Columbia University (2 years in Dublin and 2 years in New York). My major is undeclared for SFS and English for Trinity-Columbia. My long-term goal is a legal career in the public sector and I’m pretty set on going to law school.
Georgetown was my dream school for a long time because of the opportunities in DC and the caliber of SFS. I’m taking computer science right now and would like to continue in college, so the Science, Tech, and International Affairs major seems perfect for that. I am interested in cybersecurity law but I’m not 100% sure. Also, I don’t know if programming knowledge would be that beneficial for the law behind it.
I never really considered Trinity-Columbia seriously until I got in and it became a real option. It seems like a wonderful and unique experience; however, I will be part of the inaugural class so they’re still figuring a lot of things out, which could be a blessing and a curse. Additionally, I’ve heard the curriculum is more structured at Trinity and I probably won’t be able to explore computer science as much. Another thing is that I will be part of Columbia GS and I don’t know if I like the idea of competing against 25+ year olds (especially since I need a good GPA for law school). But it is a really cool program and I’ve always wanted to study in Europe.
I will be attending GAAP weekend for Georgetown and Admitted Students Day at Columbia where they will have an information session about the program. My family can’t afford to visit Ireland before May so I won’t be able to get a feel for the environment there. However I am already connected with a church in Dublin so I won’t be totally alone if I go.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
