Georgetown Transfer Fall 2018

I figure now is as perfect a time as any to reach out to the CC community about transfer applications to Georgetown. I’m applying to the Walsh School of Foreign Service and I’m anxious over my chances of being accepted. The application deadline is still a while away but knowing what to expect or even what to improve on seem beneficial.

I’m a community college sophomore. By the end of the first semester of this year I will have about 60 credits completed and just shy of 80 by the time i graduate in May 2018.
My College GPA is 3.9, by the end of the year I will graduate with an associates in political science and an associates in philosophy, though I’m looking to pursue a degree in political science at Georgetown. I’ve been on the Dean’s list every term since my first semester and I’m in the Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Society. I’m also a successful college athlete (our team won the conference and state championships last season). I have received awards for both academic and athletic achievement as well (an athletic scholar award).

I feel confident with my college achievements so far, what worries me though is my high school record. I graduated with a 3.6 GPA, scored a 26 on my ACT and a 1700 on the SAT. I was the epitome of average in high school, though I was very involved in athletics and clubs. There’s not much I can do about my lackluster high school record now, unfortunately. My strength really is in these last two years, I’m just not sure if it’s enough to give me a strong chance. I’m interested in your thoughts on this, as well as your experience/concerns about transferring to Georgetown!

hey, I transferred last here last year. in high school, my GPA was 2.9 so they accept people who had low high school GPAs especially if you have shown good grades in college. your SATs aren’t amazing but they don’t look at the writing part so that may help or hurt you. You probably have a good chance but I would focus on your essay because it seems like everything else is going well. also, reach out to your admissions officer and like ask some simple questions so you look interested. you have been in college for two years and they will look at that way more than high school. you have a good shot

Thanks! Do you know how to get in touch with an admissions officer? The only contact I’ve managed to find is with the office of undergraduate admissions, which is only available by phone, fax, or by mail (sadly no email).

Hey Guys! I just received an email from Georgetown, telling me that they have a “new opportunity”… and would like to know if I want to also be considered for the Spring semester. I understand that this means my chances for the fall are limited, but what does it say about my spring chances? Any thoughts?

I got that email as well. I was wondering if that meant if I had any interest in Spring they would just push me to Spring.
