Yes, yes, I know everyone thinks I'm crazy. But seriously... do I have a good/bad/whatever chance of getting into Georgetown as a transfer?

And what is with people saying that a 3.7 or 3.9 GPA is horrible (for college)?

All I know is that upon speaking to an admissions counselor there, she told me that it was easier to get into Georgetown as a transfer. A guy I go to school with and I attended one of those Georgetown nights, and the guy I was with said that he had a 3.8, and the admissions lady seemed to indicate that was ok. If you're gonna transfer there after freshmen year, I'd go to the Georgetown website, get on their mailing list, go to one of those nights and the the person there with all the questions you got. Good to stay current.

What is McDonough?

Okay. If I end up going to UCSD, I think I'll have a better chance of maintaining a 3.8 GPA than if I went to Berkeley... but I also like UCLA.

JTlover~ i don't mean to be disrespectful, but your reported stats would never get you in to Columbia or Stanford! at least not on the east coast...so i'm confused. whatever.....

McDonough is their school of business. I'm not trying to give advice here, but wouldn't you want to go to a UC close to home, live there, save every penny possible and apply it to your next schoo;? Just a thought.

i talked to this admissions counselor and she gave me the average college GPAs from the 2006 accepted transfer appliants
(I dont remember exactly but these are as close as i remember)
MSB: 3.73
SFS: 3.85
College: 3.78

Eh, if they consider the weighted gpa with all the extracurriculars and class rank, I could see an acceptance. Not a chance in hell for acceptance at MIT, but I could buy Stanford.

CollegeMom: Well, sorry dear, but I DID get into those schools and I worked my ass off in high school with all my extracurriculars. And you're not one to judge. Did you get into Columbia or Stanford in one of the most competitive admissions years ever? I think not.

Mattsf: Do you mean save money to go there for graduate school?

ignore happycollegemom she has a history of disrespectful and unknowledgable comments

No I mean now. UC's are about $6000 a year, before books. If you get into one of the UC's, and commuting from homes an option, take the FAFSA money, (if you can still get it) get a free education for the most part, and start preparing for DC, which is pretty expensive. I assume you're comming from Cali?

Hahaha... md6488a, thank you very much!

Matt: Yes, I'm thinking about going to UCSD, UCLA, or Berkeley. It's much more cost-effective. I have to decide tonight. I am in Cali, yes.

Yeah, that seems to be the right call. Honestly, to get accepted to any of those schools is a great honor, and Georgetown is very friendly in terms of financial aid. In fact they pledge to make it possible for people to go there in that regard. But if you go to UCSD, don't pick the wrong school there. I've heard some bad stories.......

Hey everyone. Im a Freshman at Boston College applying for transfer to MSB.
College GPA: 3.7
High School GPA: 4.1
SAT: 1340
Involved in student government at BC.

Any chances of an acceptance?

Wow u guys r funny. When that girl said the average is 3.6 GPA for g-town, does that mean they accepted people from all range...like 2.5's, 3.0's, and up? Man, this is so freaking STRESSFUL! I still think G-TOWN is all about the whole package...not everyone is perfect at things u know and I know people who got in with a 2.5 GPA.

HAPPYCOLLEGEMOM. Im sorry to say, but u r so UNEXPERIENCED with admissions process. JTLOVER probably did get into these schools and anything above a 3.0 is very good to maintain...U know other factors count too. Such as COMPETITIVE HIGH SCHOOLS, extr. activ., essays, etc...For example, I went to a very competitive high school and the district is very well-known...It is a Blue-Ribbon school and the class size was around 450 and almost half got between a 2.7-3.2...I think thats pretty damn good!!!! PLEASE KNOW UR STUFF BEFORE U JUDGE ANYONE!!!

Hey lets not turn this into a weird thread.. Georgetown transfer questions only please

To elaborate on YTA4's note, it is not unusual for students of extremely competitive high schools to be very intelligent and have a somewhat low GPA. A friend of mine that goes to a top high school in my area has a 3.2 GPA and a 1490 SAT: she was accepted at Wellesley and some other top schools.

Thanks a lot, you guys. It's encouraging that at least SOME PEOPLE know how difficult private high schools can be. Or even incredibly hard public high schools.

Matt: Which colleges did you hear bad things about at UCSD?

Thank you BRAND_182 for understanding what I mean. Please answer the question about GTOWN accepting a variety of GPA's b/c the avg. is 3.6 GPA...so, does that mean they accept scores from the 2.5-3.5...Or how does that go do u guys think?
Dont underestimate PUBLIC SCHOOLS, thats where I came from and it is a BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL and one of the best in the country.
