Georgetown Transfer Questions

at this point, we'll hear when we hear

Hey does anybody know if they will send out an email along with the mail decision?
ckdunton, I am also applying as an econ major and here i thought i was being orginal by not applying as poli sci or sis. Oh well.

Is it possible they have been telling everybody to wait until June 1st since they know that's a safe estimate for them? In other words, could we start getting decisions sooner than that? I heard on this site that people last year were getting decisions starting around this time.

Im sure they say the last possible date to keep their bases covered but who knows when we could hear, I do know that they send out letters as they make decisions so i guess it depends when the adcomm gets to our files.

Right...so they could just come out piece-meal rather than all at once I suppose.

Hello. I've applied only to schools in DC (G-town, GWU, American and Maryland). I have been accepted @ American and might go there if i don't get any other offers. Why are you transferring? What program are you in? I have been accepted into the Journalism major and that is what I want to do.

Pink- I am so sorry. I was hoping that you would get in too, you seem really nice and talented.

PS everyone, my last name begins with a Z, so I'm guessing that is why I am late to hear from UMD and GWU! haha. I called GWU yesterday and they said they send decisions as they are announced (my app hasn't been reviewed yet)

I'll keep you posted and everyone do the same!

Is anyone else transferring to Gtown from Boston College??

yep guys, I'm just as shocked as everyone else is... I mean it really is random. I'm definitely upset because I put a TON of effort into my application, and I sent them a few supplemental letters and stuff explaining my extreme interest in the school. All I know is I called the admissions office around April 20 and explained my dilemma with my GWU application deadline of May 9 (I now got it changed to June 9 because of my lack of financial aid letter) I was told to email a certain lady at Gtown admissions on May 1 to get a feel of where my application was heading. Her email said

Hi Laura,
The transfer admissions committee has given your application an initial
review, and it does not look likely that you will be offered admission.

I wish you all the best in your educational endeavors.

Regards, xxxx

So I guess my decision is unofficial as of right now, but thats what she said. I am definitely bummed out... it was my dream school. I am tempted to call up tomorrow and ask why I wasn't accepted or if there was anyway they could reconsider, but I HIGHLY doubt they will tell me anything or let me state my case. I am tempted to try.. but I'm still pretty hurt :-(

Tdolson88-
no, but i am applying to transfer to Boston College as well as Georgetown...
why don't you like Boston College?

^ too cold

Pinkdillo, can you list your high school stats?

Yes, Pinkdillo, if you could list your information, that would be very helpful. But if you don't want to, that's okay, too.

Thanks, also, for all your guys' help.

I'm a little worried about Georgetown because I don't really know what they're looking for in transfers...

Aw, Pinkdillo - I'm so sorry :( I've seen you around a lot and I was hoping that you would get in. I'm in the same situation as you are. I sent an email to an SFS woman who is supposed to review my packet and give me a tentative decision on Thursday.

I'm really nervous and I'm wondering if it will even be possible because they don't have my "official" transcripts that I had to re-send because my others were misfiled. I'm very, very nervous. I only hope that having to know earlier doesn't negatively impact their decision making process - maybe if they had more time to look through the packet they wouldn't be as harsh? I hope that isn't what happened to you and I also hope it doesn't happen to me. I almost regret my e-mail.

At this point I'm wondering about everything and if I made the right decision with my essay, with my email, with everything! Ahh, so stressful.

Once again though, I'm sorry Pinkdillo. If I don't get in either, maybe we'll see each other at GWU assuming my financial aid packet is favorable.

Why are a lot of people from Boston College wanting to transfer to Georgetown? I personally know a lot of friends who were rejected from Georgetown and accepted to Boston, but I was wondering if it's just because your first choice is Georgetown, or because you do not like BC? I am applying to transfer to both schools.

Pitttransfer, I am transfering mainly because I want the name and the prestige of the degree and also because i am looking for a more academic environment. American is a great school though. I am in the econ program. The communication dept. from what I hear is pretty good although i don't know what it is ranked.

American Transfer,

Are you considering GWU at all? If GU doesn't accept me I have to decide between AU and GWU so I was curious what your take on a comparison of the two schools would be. I'm going for an international studies major.

I would not say that there are a lot. I wish to pursue a career in government/world affairs and I feel gtown has more to offer in these fields. What interests you with BC and where would you go if you were accepted into both school?

smiledarling~ AU and GW are almost identical, except for cost. AU shows its strength in IR, with overall better rankings in academics, faculty support, and things like safety, etc, if that matters to you.

They are very similar and they are both very expensive. GWI is $53k and AU is around $40k. The main differences, besides the rankings which you can look up, is tha GW is urban while AU is residential. GW's campus is not traditional it is more like a collection of buildings in a specific area kind of like NYU. GW has much nicer buildings and its dorms are nicer. American is also a dry campus and no alcohol is allowed in the dorms. If you want any clarification let me know.

Americantransfer is right.. I go to GW and I visited AU before and GW buildings are slightly better...
