CKDUNTON, that friend that u said transferred with a 3.1 GPA, where did she transfer from??? Well, I have a 3.3 GPA but hell of a good essay, recs, activities, and all that stuff u know. I mean excellent. I think I have an EXCELLENT SHOT but still no news....DID U HEAR ANYTHING???

why is georgetown practically giving out decisions in advance to anyone who emails them?
and the essay for the college was pretty generic. I don't see why they would change it. It was basically what are your goals and why gu?

addy189, did u hear anything??? I'm still waiting

No and I'm in CA. But I expected a wait as they lost my app and I had to fax it in the end of April.

you guys..

I already told you about the tentative decision which the lady sent me by email.

"Thank you for your message.
We are still in the process of finalizing decisions, but at this point it unfortunately looks like you are not likely to be admitted.
Thank you,"

-> this meant my app is still under review, but there's hopeless for me to get in.
am I right??

should I have to wait for the final decision??

What do you think?...
seriously, I really wanna go GTown..:(..it's my first choice and dream school....:)

You guys..I got finally rejected:(

The lady sent me an email and said "Your decision letter will be mailed next week and unfortunately you will be denied admission. This is the final decision on your application."

Oh well..;;
I am gonna reapply next year..:(

I'm sorry Aquamarine :( I know the hurt, as I got the "unlikely admit" email a few weeks ago myself. I tried to get some people to call in on my behalf and then I sent a letter to the adcomm, and I have yet to see if it made any difference (no contact from Georgetown since). So... since the lady said your decision letter will be mailed next week, I guess we all shouldn't expect to hear until then either? It's looking to me like only rejects have yet to hear.. :(

Does GTown require an international transfer student who attends US college now to submit TOEFL score??..or TOEFL is waived??

Hey all,

A few days ago I got a letter from Georgetown (normal business size envelope) and I could only think "oh no!". BUT I opened it up and I got in!!!!

My stats:

SAT 1410
High school GPA: 3.8

just completed sophomore year at William and Mary
College GPA: 3.3
EC: Crew, SEAC
Major: linguistics

Could you guys give me some advice? because I am gonna reapply next year..

Here's my stat:

I applied to the College as a sophomore transfer.

Current college GPA: 4.0
(the college located outside of the US...I am an international student.)
HS GPA: 3.5 (pretty low)
SAT: Math-760/ verbal: 630
SAT2: None
EC: internship at English institute in Korea.
(publishing text books or translate into Korean or English)
English tutor
English newpaper club(Editor-in-chief)...
other various clubs
lots of volunteer services.......etc...
Awards: lots of painting awards (including national awards etc)
Essay: I think pretty decent..:)

I think there's much more disadvantages over me because I am an international transfer student and go to the foreign college now.

I am still waiting for the decisions of UPenn and JHU, but I think it is
impossible for me to get admitted.

In Fall 2007, I am planning to go to Emory or UVA instead of GTown and reapply GTown(maybe MSB or the college) and two more other schools next year. (Frankly, Emory and UVA is my third choice, so I don't wanna go there..:()

Could you give me some advice?...do I have to take SAT2?
what is my weakness??..
or anything...:)

and PINKDILLO, I am sorry for you too. which colleges did you apply to besides GTown?..

hey aqua,
i just wanted to say i understand that right now it sucks that u didnt get in, but be open minded because who knows maybe ull have a better experience at emory. im sure it will all work out:)

Thanks nina..:)..but I have a lots of reasons(seriously...including personal stuffs or locations) for going to my first choice schools including GTown. That's why I am gonna reapply next year.

aquamarine, yeah as long as you try to maintain your GPA, I think you'll have an excellent shot next year! and my friend who transferred with the 3.1 GPA was at vanderbilt her freshman year, which may be why haha, but still that's pretty darn low...obviously GU puts a lot of weight on other aspects of the app. i still have not heard anything either, but i like addy, am in ca. i cant believe they're making so many people wait so long this year! booo...

sorry Aquamarine, we are in the same boat. I have a friend at Emory and she really likes it but you are right, you can't find a better location than Georgetown (well except GWU). Have you taken Toefl yet? I heard a high Toefl score can replace your low SAT verbal score.

just received my status by e-mail - Review of my application completed, most likely denied :(
oh well I didn't expect too much either. Very low SAT and only 3.4 HS GPA because I came as an international student during HS junior year. All I have is an excellent recommendation from a professor I had in a graduate level course during my freshman year and some volunteer work related to the major I applied.

I'll just take the GW offer and go for IR. I mean Elliott School is international highly recognized too right?

Just wondering, has anyone here applied for NHS or for the International Health major?

zerolife...I am sorry...yeah..I took toefl and got high score. however, I got rejected..because maybe I am an international transfer student who attend the foreign college.

I am in a dilemma now..which school I have to go this year between Emory and UVA..:(..
AND also I have to consider "reapply thing" seriously, because I heard transferring twice isn't look good if I want to go to top law school...:(..but I really want to go to GTown or NYU....sigh...I am in kind of dilemma now..

UVA advantage: better curriculum than Emory's (for me)
better location than Emory (some aspects..much closer to
east coast than Emory)
reputation (I am not sure, but most people who I know like
UVA...much more than Emory when I said to them)

UVA disadvantages: the horrible grade deflation..(I heard from some of my
friends...they go to UC Berkeley and Michigan..)
located in the small village..:( (I like to live in the city)
weather...(spring, summer, winter are not good..:()
too much in-state students...

Emory advantages: private school..
located in the city..
not much the horrible grade deflation..
nice weather..
offering merit-based scholatship to internatinal students
(pretty tempting)

Emory disadvantages: location...(too southern..:()
curriculum (I like UVA curriculum..more than Emory's..
I have to take 4 fitness courses (dancing, jogging etc)
if I go to Emory..

I am in kind of dilemma..:(

btw has everyone here done the interview? is it very important? I got the invitation really late but I have to admit the real reason I never called my interviewer is because I chicked out. I was interning for an admissions office and we had a couple cases where the interviewer gave a very low score even through he/she has a strong application. guess what the decision was. I know, stupid excuse, but too late to regret now. anyway congrats to everyone who got in and enjoy your life in D.C., because it's really a great place.

Emory advantages: private school..
located in the city..

Not actually located in the city. We are more in a suburb of downtown Atlanta, but it is still technically referred to as Atlanta.

not much the horrible grade deflation..

What?

nice weather..
offering merit-based scholatship to internatinal students
(pretty tempting)

Emory disadvantages: location...(too southern..)

We aren't really southern at all. A big chunk of the student body is from the Northeast. Have you visited?....or talked to an Emory student?

curriculum (I like UVA curriculum..more than Emory's..
I have to take 4 fitness courses (dancing, jogging etc)
if I go to Emory..

Not true. You take health, one fitness course, and then two random gym classes of your choice.

I suggest you do a little more research, or perhaps visit the school, before you make a judgment about it.

jmbarr...I am in the US now, so all I can get information from some of my friends who live in the US..:)...pretty tough for me to decide the school which I gonna go to..

hey aqua,
well yeah if u feel its the right thing for u then def try next yr because ull have a much greater chance. when i get on campus in the fall i will ask around in the admissions office so i can give u more info on what u can improve upon in ur app.
