Georgetown Transfer Questions

On the GU website it says that transfer students must submit either SAT or ACT scores, but does this mean that, like first year applicants, they must also submit the results of two SAT subject tests?

Also, is it easier to transfer into McDonough? or would my chances be the same as transferring into the College?
-easier yet to transfer as a sophomore or junior? I feel like it may be more beneficial to transfer as a jr. because there would be more good grades to base the decision on, but on the flip side there are usually more spaces for sophomore transfers, am I right?

Ok. So here is the deal.

Im currently enrolled at the University of Washington Tacoma campus and I am a freshman. My stats are:

HS GPA: 3.2 (roughly or 3.3)
College GPA: 3.2 (but I can increase that)
SAT/ACT: My SAT score was bad, my ACT was like 24
I presently have 15 credits, and I would transfer after I had 90 (transfer in my Junior year; 45 credits per year)
Outside of curricular work, I'm trying to establish a Habitat for Humanity chapter and I volunteer as a teachers aide for a local elementary school.

Now what can I do to get into Georgetown?

If I increase my GPA to 4.0 from henceforth and make deans list; as well as retake the SAT and score above 2000, and actually get that Habitat for Humanity chapter running could that help?

What must I do to get in?

What are my chances to get into Georgetown college?

Freshman at University of Michigan-honors
GPA: 3.7
Rec should be pretty good

SAT: 1480/2210
HS GPA: 3.5, slacked off senior year: will they really look down on that?

Essays are decent, not show-stoppers but not bad either.

moneyball: very good

How strong is the physics department at Georgetown? Does anyone know anything about the quality of teaching ease of access to undergraduate research?

I had several questions regarding admissions as a transfer student

1) GU is one of the few schools that accepts interviews as a transfer student. How much does a solid interview help your acceptance chances?

2)I am currently taking classes at Georgetown as a visiting student through The Fund for American Studies Program while interning for a very prominent company in their government affairs office, and have previous internship experience in local government in my home state of MD. Do excellent grades in these classes and/or internship experience related to my major help in getting accepted?

3)how important are SAT scores as a transfer? i retook them in Oct 2008 since i had not taken them since 2002. i scored a 710 verbal and 650 math(i'm a political science major and have not had a math course in 4 years). note: the math was on par with what i scored in HS but the verbal was about 100 points higher

3)i initially started off at a 4 year school as an engineering major and did poorly as it was not my forte and i hated it, left the school and am now at a CC with around a 2.75 gpa. Combined with my 12 credits at Georgetown this semester I will have 77 credits. Assuming my interview goes well and i elaborate on the reasons for my past academic shortcomings, what are my chances of getting accepted? I am hoping my relatively high verbal SAT score combined with my internship experience and a solid interview helps to offset my below average GPA. Thanks in advance for the help

dhetzel1, I remember reading on their website that interviews rarely hurt, and can only help.

I'm curious about the interview as well, their website states that it's optional. However, they don't specify if it's optional from the applicants point of view i.e. you can request one or if they will determine which candidates are required to have one depending on their level of interest in you?

DontAsk,

I called their admissions office about a month and a half ago about an interview and was told to call back and schedule one in late jan/early feb if i wanted one, so by optional i'm relatively certain they mean you can schedule one if you wish. They made it sound like if you wanted one it was available to you assuming they have the time. It sounded like they only have a certain number of people during a set period of time that do interviews for each semester

Anyone know how challenging it is to transfer into GU college and then do an internal transfer later into McDonough?

I have a 3.70 GPA at Davidson and will have taken 3 300+ level classes and 1 200+ class. I am currently a freshmen and will be applying for sophomore standing. I have strong ECs as well, primarily that I took a gap year before coming here and studied at a German University for a year on a government scholarship. As well, all of my other kinds of extracurriculars fall into the same international relations category, which was exemplified by that government scholarship, so I have shown determination/linear progression in that field of study.

Obviously, as well, recommendations really aren't an issue. In terms of my high school standing, I was in the top 30%-20% of a prestigious private school and have a 2100 SAT score (720 CR, 660M, 720 WR)

My weakest point is probably my highschool transcript which, though still very solid, is just not as excellent as I have been doing since that time. Also, my SAT scores are only okay, but I was wondering since I took that gap year if, since it has been 2 years since highschool, the admissions will look at me like a sophomore and therefore will put less emphasis on my highschool transcript.

Anyway, with all of this, I was under the impression I would have pretty strong transfer chances. But I was wondering...do schools realize that not all College grading policies are the same, because Davidson is a real ball buster so I hope they realize that. Anyway, please let me know what my chances are. Thanks so much.

I was hoping to apply to the School of Foreign Service

And to poster above me, it is difficult to do two transfers (one external, one internal)
I asked the admins and they said it is a very low chance maybe less then 15/100 because transferring twice is looked down upon.

Better off just applying directly to the school you want.

Welshy, thanks for the reply. I was considering applying to the college first to complete taking Calculus but as I just reread the McDonough page, I can apply directly and just complete it on the side while I'm there.

Kulaki, transferring into the College is pretty much as difficult as transferring into MSB. There is a very slight difference in admission rate. I'd suggest you apply to MSB.

I'm a 29 year old"non traditional" student currently attending community college.I've worked since I left high school.Im applying to Georgetown SFS as a sophomore transfer.I figure since there going to take half my credits anyway, whats the point of getting an AA degree.I went to visit last week for the transfer only session and was sold on the school and city.I would like to attend Georgetown because I'd like to take the STIA path with the security studies concentration.I would possibly like to work for the FBI or Interpol after I graduate. My biggest fear in life is to have a job where I'm attached to a desk forever.

Stats

HS GPA not worth mentioning.I had problem violence problems with my father so I had problems with attendance. My grades naturally suffered. Some very caring people at the school were able to keep me from dropping out and I was able to graduate on time but my GPA was terrible.I decided to return to school after work related health issues forced me to leave my career.

CC GPA:3.5
Have taken required core classes for SFS(Micro,Macro,Non Western History etc..)
No extra curriculars at CC.Im 29,the clubs and activities are organized by very immature 18 and 19 years olds.I have a job, fiance, and a band that I manage.I don't have the time.

I am currently taking private instruction in Arabic(my CC does not offer Arabic) and I also train in the martial art of Krav Maga.Im also a minority male student.(Afr. Am)

What are my chances?

KravMaga: you know for sure they are going to throw out a lot of the CC class credits? That is something that I am worried about and wondering if I should have taken more prereqs at my CC or simply realized I'll be adding an extra year on to undergrad by being forced to take the additional ones at Georgetown.

I am a freshman at GWU.
Honors Program.
4.0 GPA in college
4.0 GPA in high school
1360/2060 on SATS

Pretty good essays, pretty good extracurriculars including college level research

Sorry I took so long to respond, but Pneumonia put me down for a couple of days. The way I see it,my CC offers very few lib arts classes.I took everything in the SFS core I could except Arabic, which my CC did not offer. If I hang around for another semester I'll just be taking classes that GTOWN will just throw out anyway because there not part of the core.I flew in for the Feb 5th informational and they told me they already would not take 2 of my history classes.Anything I take from here on out is useless.Good luck,I hope to see you on campus in the fall.

I'm interested in transferring to Georgetown (the College, not SFS) and am curious about my chances.

I spent the past year as a paid field organizer on the Obama campaign in a top-tier battleground state...will this be a major help? Since I have been away for school for some time, my recs will be campaign-related

Sophomore at U. of Wisconsin, 3.1 GPA or thereabouts (much higher this semester, but won't count) in a History/Poli Sci major...handful of ECs, including College Dems and a fraternity

1450/2150 SAT scores

Went to elite New England prep school, but GPA was lousy (high 2s/low 3s throughout)

As you can see, there's a major contrast between my grades - consistently weak - and testing/ECs, which have been strong. Is it worth applying this year?

I'm thinking about transferring to Georgetown College next year. I will be applying the spring of my Sophomore year for entry as a Junior transfer student. I applied as a first-year student early-action and was waitlisted in the Spring. I am currently attending another four-year Jesuit university and was wondering what my chances might look like and if there is anything I should do next year to improve my chance of acceptance. I am currently a math/biology double-major, but if I transfer I would transfer as a math major and take supplemental science courses.

-3.8uw/4.3w high school gpa
-2120 SAT 620v/740m/760w
-first honors all throughout high school at an esteemed prep. school, NHS officer, academic club president, 2 years of soccer and 2 years of theater involvement, 4 years of community service involvement, etc.
-intramural sports in college, service coordinator, member of a selective leadership program, highest merit scholarship recipient, etc.
-college gpa 3.98 (1st semester), might drop to a 3.8 by the end of this (spring) semester
-18 credits per term
-courses i have taken this year include: gen. chem (A), gen. bio (A), calc II (A), org. chem (A), calc III (A or B), and required courses for this university (music (A), English comp. (A), World history (A), religion (A), speech (A), etc).

Do I have a chance? What should I do between now and next spring (when I apply) to increase my chances?

Thanks.

When will I find out if I am accepted at Georgetown or not? I was accepted at American University but, Georgetown is my first choice. I only have four weeks to reply to American's offer. What if I don't hear from Georgetown in four weeks?

will someone tell me what georgetown transfer acceptances look like......and is there any chance of hearing in april about decsions?
