Georgetown Transfer Thread

Alright! Now that our apps are in and everyone's applied, let's talk about it. Where'd you all apply to/coming from? I applied to the College majoring in Economics!

I’m from the area (NOVA) and applied with my major being sociology!

What are my chances for being accepted as a transfer student?

I am sophomore in gwu.

College GPA: will be in the 3.55-3.60 range, major gpa 3.85-3.90 range
High school GPA: 4.0
SAT: 620(CR) 730(MATHS)
Have one rec from high school counselor, have two professors recs from my current school and additional rec from a GU professor( I don’t know if it is useful in the application)

organizations activities, volunteer activities, tutor, academic contests

I applied to McDonough. : )
Anyone know when decisions start coming out?

^ the website says June 1, but some came out in May last year.

90 days tops, hopefully.

Anyone here get an interview?

People have already started getting interviews?

Hey guys- I go to a decent private university in CT. I applied as a Russian major, GPA 3.76, mediocre SATs but lots of ECs- Government research/internships, taught english in Russian high schools last semester, political columnist, French club, etc. Wanted to transfer because I’m looking to switch my major from International Studies to Russian and my university doesn’t offer a RU language major.

Haven’t heard anything about interviews yet- has anyone else?? The wait is THE WORST!

Also when are you guys sending midterm reports? My semester started so late so my midterm is going to be really late as well. Bummer.

Applied to Georgetown College for an English major. Transferring from a CC close to DC (with an associate’s in social science)

I know it might be a longshot for me, but it’s worth one anyways.

I wasn’t aware that we had to submit midterm reports. Is this a requirement for all transfer students??

Thanks!

When I talked to the admissions office earlier in January, they said they don’t require the midterm report. Also, there’s nothing on their website about it. They don’t use the common app, so there’s really nothing to send them. Apparently, though, they’ll sometimes ask applicants for the final grades in May. I assume that’s in the case of being waitlisted?

I would actually prefer to send in my midterm report. I guess I should call them to see if that’s possible. Just in case that helps my application!

And you’re right. I couldn’t find anything about the midterm report for transfer students on their website. I think it’s just for first year students. I’m not too sure.

what did they say? i want to send my mid-term report as well. do they accept the common app mid term report? if not what can we send in?

yay! i’ve been looking for a gtown transfer thread, and now i’ve found it! i’m majoring in econ too! so gtown College for me. did you guys send a resume of your extra currics? cuz the app only had you check off categories of groups/clubs/etc and i feel like that’s very unspecific… o.o

Good point, @esthetique. I didn’t send a resume but talked about how a particular EC really impacted my future in the essays to shed a little more light on that whole aspect. Did you send a resume? Ugh. Nervous!

haha no i didn’t send a resume. but i feel like i should… and i still need to send in my ap scores lol… Yeah after looking at past transfer stats, i’m scared for this year. the acceptance rate for transfers were usually in the 20s%, until last year when it dropped big time :(.
i’m kinda disappointed in gtown for taking so long with decisions. i’m pretty sure nyu gets around the same amount of transfer applicants, but they still make decisions quicker than gtown. nyu’s due date is april 1st, and decision days are about the same as gtown’s. did you guys apply to anywhere else?

I know-it seems unfair since a lot of school of the sam caliber have April due dates but what can ya do  Admission stats across the board are so daunting- it’s like you can’t even really chance yourself because it’s such a crapshoot. On that note, I went a little nutso given how unhappy I am at my home school and applied to Gtown, Cornell, Brown, Harvard, Dartmouth, Swarthmore and Colgate-- needed school with a Russian program so that means I’m pretty much forced to only consider super selective schools. Really. Freaking. Nervous. What about you?? I’m curious to see where else people who want to go to gtown are interested in…

I applied. I have no idea what my chances are honestly. Let’s hope it goes well.

Also applying to Cornell, UPenn, UVA, NYU, Northwestern, Vanderbilt

The Gracken

I’m waiting on decisions from UVA, W&M, and Bowdoin.

Already accepted to George Mason and Virginia Tech.

Nice, @GregFields, we have a few of the same schools haha. What are your stats like? I feel like most us of are probably more nervous than we should be… including myself.
