Georgetown Transfer Thread

I really hope my high school gpa doesn’t hurt my chances at GU. That’s the only thing that is bugging me! Can’t ever change it unfortunately…

Add me to the list under College as Econ.

I was on the earlier list quite a few pages back :P

EDIT: I might be getting confused with another school though… So many applications!

I was WLed last year for SFS and haven’t heard back. Maybe it’s because I’m a freshmen now at Vandy with no special circumstances and I’m not an international

I got my acceptance e-mail at around 8:30 pm. I know you guys want some more info, so here it is:

Accepted to SFS, will be a sophomore

 • I did not apply to Georgetown last year.
 • College GPA: 3.88; ACT - 30; HS GPA: 4.0
 • Pretty involved in clubs at my current school as a freshman
 • Essays point out how transferring to Georgetown’s SFS is essential for my life/intellectual/career goals.
 • Really good interview

Good luck to everyone! :)

Congrats Elec! Many thanks for posting your stats, I hope others (accepted or not) follow your lead.

What type of college were you coming from?

Congrats elec! I’m surprised that you found out so early – what were your hooks? anything very unique?

I am currently a business major at a private university that is pretty similar to Georgetown.
I’m not sure if I have a specific “hook” that got me accepted. I have an international background, am actively involved in a variety of clubs at my current school, and holds leadership positions at these clubs as a freshman. In my essay, I stressed how my current school has contributed to my growth both personally and intellectually, and detailed my aspirations to become a socially responsible entrepreneur. Really nothing exceptionally spectacular in my application.

Is it easier to transfer in as a junior than as a sophomore?

Sent from my DROID BIONIC using CC

Hey guys, here are my stats (if anyone wants to know):

Accepted: SFS (International Politics, Sophomore Transfer)
College GPA: 3.94
Majors at Current School: Spanish and International Studies
HS GPA: 4.0
ACT: 36
ECs: The three clubs/activities I am most involved in all have an international focus, and I think that consistency helped my application.
Main Essay: I stressed the fact that, while I wasn’t unhappy at my current school, I thought Georgetown would be a better fit (more Chinese language/pure IR courses, opportunity to study Ukrainian, proximity to Washington, D.C. in relation to potential careers, etc.).
Hooks: I don’t exactly know if this qualifies, but I made it to the extended waitlist last year. They didn’t take anyone off, but they sent me (and everyone else on the list, I would assume) a letter saying something along the lines of “if you apply as a transfer in one or two years and keep your grades up, we’ll give you strong consideration.”

Usmctransfer,
Congratulations! And thanks for the info about the acceptance, I’m so relieved to hear letters are out next week!!
I’m also appying to MSB finance/IT
Would you Please share your stats/any hooks?

So all acceptances that just came out were for the waitlisted students?

okay 1 more question

Usmc transfer, you said “they said letters will be sent out for MSB next week”
Did they mean acceptances only?
So if I don’t hear good news next week that could mean I’m denied or waitlisted?

Sorry guys for the excessive questions! It’s lonely here at central european time

Not too lonely–I’m on CET as well

Cool! I’m in Zurich, where are you? I’m just waiting around at ETH to take my finals today - which will be way too easy.

I just can’t sleep =/

^ Same. I had a dream (nightmare) that I was rejected at Georgetown.

Paris–haha nice, just had my finals last week and now I’ve got nothing to take my mind off this wait :p

Stats/Hooks
Accepted MSB
Community College GPA 70 credits (30 honors credits) 4.0
High School GPA 2.0
SAT 980 (out of 1600)
I served in the Marines for 4 years and was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, so since I have been out of high school for 5 years I don’t need to show them SAT/ACT.
I am in an honors business program at my CC, where there is “community college Georgetown preferred” thing where the President of the school will write a letter to Georgetown on behalf of 2 students, I was lucky enough to be selected.
I am valedictorian out of 8,000 students at my CC, but by the time I found out it was to late to tell Georgetown so it wasn’t on my app.
EC’s
The business program I am in runs an on campus Starbucks that grosses roughly 200K annually and I ran the ops and accounting teams.
We compete in SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) and I am chairing a project that has gained some traction inside of the Maryland state legislature regarding Veteran class room integration.
Hope this helps some.

Wow USMC, you have a great profile. I cannot believe they rejected you last year. Congrats again and you deserve it! I guess you were also pro at working all those attributes into your app. I think that is where I failed. I didn’t know how to show my achievements/experience in the app.

I guess you are also in nvcc and you are talking about annandale starbucks? I missed the deadline for the “Georgetown CC preferred”.

I go to Montgomery College, not NOVA, but I hear you guys are just as good. They rejected me because I had 12 college credits at that point and was taking the equivalent of algebra I. What a difference a year makes though I am now in a applied theory calc class that is only for engineering and physics majors. The guy I talked to said that he had never seen a transcript like mine because I got through 6 years of math in less than a year.
