Georgetown Transfer Thread

hey guys,

today i received an email asking to set up an interview with a georgetown alumni. i found this surprising since it was already so late in the process (they’re already accepting people and making their decisions). also would this even affect the decision so late in the process? i called the alumnus and she too thought that it was surprsing that georgetown sent this email so late, and would have expected a call earlier in the process. also, when i was applying, i remember reading on the site that an interview with an alumnus is not required for transfer and thus will not be considered for admission. i would have set up an appt anyway, but no number was given at the time so i didnt bother.

any thoughts?

^If you scroll up a bit, me and another user got the same email as you.

What school did you apply to? What year are you?

I’ve been having a week long conniption. I just want to know!!!

Got the physical copy of my admissions letter today. (The email was sent May 4th, for an idea of the timeline.)

^That’s good to hear… I live really close to Georgetown’s campus, so I should be getting one very soon as well. Assuming financial aid works out, Georgetown is most likely where I’m going to end up.

What number do we call for an early read? Thanks in advance!

You need proof that you actually have a deadline coming up, so they don’t just give you a decision over the phone. It’s for people who actually need to know ha

Well I have a deadline on the 16th, so I do need to know. How can I find out?

^Call and tell them your situation. You will then receive the contact information for the person who is responsible for your application (sorted by school and major). Then email that individual politely asking for an early read. Good luck.

On a completely unrelated note…I just got the financial aid over the phone, and it was VERY generous. Therefore…looks like I’m going to be attending Georgetown!!! Is the facebook group specifically for accepted students or just for people who are applying to Georgetown for transfer admission?

HopesToBeAHoya, congratulations!! You’ve worked long and hard for this :D

Did you just call up the fin aid office and ask for your package?

Thanks! I’m happy to know everything finally worked out, hahaha.

It’s a little complicated but here goes: I called the financial aid office and told the person I spoke to that my matriculation at whatever school is heavily dependent on financial aid. This was a few days ago, on Wednesday I believe. She told me to call her back on Friday, and I did. A few years ago, while I was in high school, I did a Summer Program at Georgetown and was given a net id back then. I used the same net id and password I had set in high school to access My Access (the link can be found below):

https://myaccess.georgetown.edu/

The person in the financial aid office “flipped a switch,” and I was able to see the financial aid through my Georgetown account. If you don’t have a net id already (chances are you don’t), call and tell them that you have another deposit due soon and ask if they could send your FA via email.

Thanks for the info. I’ll call in on Monday!

^What other schools are you considering other than Georgetown?

If we haven’t heard yet, is it safe to say we haven’t been accepted?

I’m trying for MSB by the way.

^most likely. rejection letters are probably sent late may. seems like they accepted mostly previous waitlists this year.

lol i’m still waiting for some sort of miracle that’ll most likely not happen xP.

@ esthetique: I disagree. It is only May 13 – there are still 3 weeks left in May. I feel like there are still plenty of acceptances to come (most likely another wave sometime this week)

I know i said may 18th was probs when we should start panicking, but i looked at last year’s thread again and it seems like the last acceptance wave was around may 13… i only saw 1 acceptance on may 20 something. most of the rejections/waitlists were on may 20ish.
but gahh! i hope that you’re actually right! ><

^ I’ve given up hope because May 13th was the second Friday in May last year…that just passed this year

Personally, at this point I’m hoping I get waitlisted…Haha, as awful as that sounds.

^ actually, me too haha. i seriously wish they’d just email the rejections >.>
