Hi everyone!

I am currently at a 2 year college in CA and am trying to transfer to Georgetown next Fall. I have a 4.0 and after researching the school felt that I had a pretty good chance of getting in. I have been out of high school for 5 years now so I am exempt from SAT/ACT tests, but not high school transcripts. I underwent a traumatic experience in high school leading to post traumatic stress disorder and had to go to homeschool. I fell so far behind that I took the CHSPE test to finish high school so I could focus on my health. So not only would my transcripts be awful, I didn't even graduate and I know that while the proficiency test is the equivalent to a diploma in all respects in CA, it is not in other states. Since then I have done very well getting my life back on track to pursue better opportunities but do you think this completely ruins my chances??

I am still undecided about an admissions essay because while I would like to somewhat explain why my grades suddenly crashed in high school, I am apprehensive about discussing what happened to me mainly because it is often a difficult topic for others to take in... Would it be better to have some kind of medical file included? I am really unsure of how to handle this and I don't want any chances I have to be ruined because of something I had no control over.

Also, I know this is somewhat unrelated but I was offered an invitation to join the Phi Theta Kappa honor society- was kind of going to blow it off, but am wondering if that is at all impressive to schools when transferring to a 4 year?

Am also considering Penn state, GW, and any UC (am confident to get into at least a few).

Any help is very greatly appreciated!! Thank you!

Damn, we have very very similar stories, except you have a more kick butt gpa then me lol. I would also like to get into Georgetown and well… like i said very very similar.

I didn’t know they required HS transcripts as they dont require sat after 5 years… this is a little disheartening as i only would be able to have transcripts for 1.5 years of HS, if at all…

I think you stand a good chance at Georgetown and a great chance at any UC. Especially if you take advantage of the TAG. I believe you have a similar chance at GW (which I am also considering!)

I would appreciate if you would chance me back, and I would be grateful for any advice to improve my chances as well. I am new to CC and so far people seem to be ignoring me for some reason.

Also, feel free to message me-- I too am apprehensive about my personal statement for the same reasons you posted.

schools like grade curves

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!! :)

I think one of the things you can do well is to use this story to your advantage. Really hit home with the traumatic stress that you endured in high school. What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. This is something you have to relay to not only Georgetown, but to the rest of the colleges that you’re applying to as well.

Also, can you chance me back? Thanks!

I think that’s a good idea I’m hoping that I’m able to do it in a way that can showcase my strengths… thanks for the encouragement!
