So I'm in my first year of community college in NJ. I want to try and transfer to Georgetown at the beginning of next year so i'd be a sophomore.l For arguments sake, lets just say i have a 4.0 after my first year(planning on it). I'm part of phi theta kappa(greek honors assosciation), the radio club and the business club. I work 4 days a week and full time during the summer. A net price calculator through Georgetown said that i would be paying 15k a year there.
My high school stats are not that impressive....3.29 gpa with relatively hard courses, 27 act, few clubs few sports church community service. Im just wondering what kinda chances i have transferring into Georgetown sophomore year from out of state with these credentials. Any comments are appreciated. Thanks

SAT scores and HS GPA matter less for transfers and GT is relatively favorable towards transfers. I would call your application a high match if you maintain your 4.0 and continue on your ECs.

the hs stats and sat dnt matter that much even tho im trying to transfer after 1 yr? thanks for your response

They matter somewhat less than college GPA. You’ve already proven capable in college, and that you’re on an upward trajectory, which is a big plus. To improve your chances significantly, raise your ACT score to 32 at least.

alright thank you but you still belive i am around 50/50 without the higher act score?

Aren’t private universities at the level of Georgetown and above getting very hard for transfers in these times? If you use the time you have in JC to do something really outstanding, transferring to a college like Georgetown’s odds will not be in your favor.

@ ractogon i just looked it up real quick this website agrees with the above poster and says gtown is transfer friendly [Georgetown University Transfer and Admissions Information](<a href=“Georgetown University Transfer and Admissions Information”>Georgetown University Transfer and Admissions Information)

bump ;lkj;lj

I would call it unlikely. According to College Board Georgetown’s transfer acceptance rate is 11 percent and they look at your high school transcript and standardized test scores (both of which are low for Georgetown).

obviously i cant change the high school transcript but what would you suggest me doing from now until i send my application in to give me the best chance to get accepted into georgetown

Not much at this point, they are looking at several years worth of stats and most of those stats won’t be so great. Try and get good grades this year and retake the ACT, other then that there is nothing you can do…

would getting more ec’s and community service greatly improve my chances? during high school i did a lot of stuff for my church and still have that opportunity available and i know that georgetown is a catholic university so would it help?

ECs and community service never hurt anybodies application, but do your ECs because you like them, not because you think it will boost your chances…

yeah i was just asking…if i raise my act score how much more of a chance do i have to get in

bump 10char

Sorry I didn’t see your latest question. The impact will be dictated by what they prioritize when reviewing applications for transfers (which I do not know). If they care a lot about high school grades it won’t help, if they care more about college grades and test scores it will. The best way to find out would be to contact them. My best guess is that it will have a minimal impact, but I really don’t know.

yeah i was going to call them but they have been closed all weekend…i will call tomorrow thanks for your input
