Very strong reccomendations from my high school superintendent, Economics Professor and Volunteer Campus coordinator who sent me to Chicago & Guatemala (GWU alumni)

my essay will probably have something to do with service learning & seeing poverty maybe Habitat.

How long have you been at Gannon?

I’m a freshman,I had 6 credits from a local 4year college dual enrollment,earned 18 this semester and am taking 21 next semester.

bump?..

anyone?..

I would say you’re pretty solid for American (especially if you write an incredible essay about Habitat and Humanity and volunteering… that is what AU is all about). And with an IB major, Kogod’s a great match. Nice and shiny building, too.

Georgetown’s more competitive, but I say you also have a good shot. Just do your best on the essays. You also mention GW, so I’ll let you in on the relationship of the DC big three (in terms of Polisci/IR, mostly – and from AU perspective here)

American is for highly political kids who got rejected from Georgetown and were too poor to go to GW.

(But shh, don’t tell.)

Thus, AU is a great school that offers many scholarships and is more on-level with GW (although GW offers more of a liberal arts approach, or so I hear). Georgetown is technically not an Ivy, but it’s pretty darn close.

Good luck!

are my test scores going to hurt that much?

I am not really familiar with the SAT, so I sort of skimmed over your score. Just looking at the ACT/SAT equivalency table, your SATs are sort of low. But, your 28 ACT is enough for American and GW, and I know someone who was admitted to Gtown on a 29 (although he had different circumstances and was an Eastern European immigrant). Remember, though, that although standardized scores are looked at your first sem. GPA will also weigh in - colleges look a little differently at test scores of transfers than they do at ones of incoming freshmen.

Also, your Gannon GPA is high (HS one is just okay) and your High School background is different than most Gtown kids - you did not exactly have the same opportunities. There’s a large population at Gtown that comes from wealthy areas and private Catholic schools. It seems you really made the most of what your high school context offered you. If you’re compelling in your essays, I don’t see why you don’t have a chance.

As with the test scores, it really is a crap shoot and I would ask around anywhere possible. Maybe even call the admissions offices. It might be beneficial to you to retake either exam (is that still possible?) If you brought the score up you also might get more merit aid from American, who specifically base themselves on ACTs/SATs, at least in case of freshmen… not so sure re: transfers.

well for mcdonough business school they list the average as 28-33 ACT but im just hoping to “make par” and really make up with the rest of my app test scores are my worst part =/

You can always retake the SAT January 23rd or something to try and improve your scores. Your highschool stats are going to matter A LOT more because you are only a freshman. That said, with a better SAT, great EC’s and essays I think you definitely have a shot. Make sure to really convey in your essays why georgetown is the match for you and touch up on what “alu” said above

well 1150 is going to be my final SAT score before applying =/ im taking my SAT2s the 23rd if I do well on them (700 range hopefully) should that matter? They’re only recommended for transfers…

Huh. Call the Admissions office and ask them what’s more important – for a transfer to have a certain range SAT score, or the SAT2s taken.

Or, you can retake the ACT instead on February 6, 2010. (Registration deadline January 5). ([ACT Registration : Test Dates in the U.S., U.S.Territories, and Canada](<a href=“ACT Registration | ACT Testing Dates | The ACT Test”>ACT Registration | ACT Testing Dates | The ACT Test))

That way, you won’t have to take three tests in one day. The ACT with writing and SAT are pretty much interchangeable.

If you’re really concerned, I’d go for it. Not quite sure when your results would be ready, but perhaps you could notify Gtown or other schools of your retaking efforts. Just a thought.

American - Match
GW - Match
GTown - Mid reach (test scores)
Brown - Mid Reach (test scores)

thanks, i appreciate the posts

Do you have financial need? If so, that will hurt you with Brown.

yea alot actually =/ i think Brown is out of the question im just applying to the three in DC hoping for Georgetown primarily.
