Hello, this is the first time I'm using this. I am a sophomore and am currently worried if I could get into georgetown university or not. Over the summer, I took the Princeton review class and practice SAT, i got an 1800, Im kind of disappointed. Also, I did pretty bad on the PLAN i feel: 24. In addition, I got a 166 on the PSAT I took this October. My grades are OK but are dropping slightly, gpa 3.75. I was wondering if I could get into Georgetown or if I was on the right track, thanks :)

Oh, also I do take a ton of extracurriculars:
Science Olympiad
Forensics (won 4th place twice in debate and 1st in drama)
Representative in student government
Habitat for Humanity
Youth Ledgeslature
and did about 50 hrs of volunteer work so far

I think it is difficult to chance a sophomore, but I’ll try (I was the same way). I just got into Georgetown University EA and they are rapidly becoming more competitive. Here’s my two sense:
The SAT is very low, but it can easily be improved just practice, practice, practice.
Your GPA should be a 3.8UW or higher to be competitive. Make sure you keep working hard on it.
Challenge yourself with AP’s and honors.
Your PSAT is also low. You need to work it up, but it’s not impossible because you are only a sophomore.
Try to stick with ONLY THE THINGS YOU LOVE. If you hate them the admissions officers will notice. if you like them, you will excell and admissions officers will be impressed. Drop the things you hate and focus on your favorite EC’s.
I’m also an advocate of internships in fields you like. I think it is quite impressive.
Probably do some volunteer work in an area that interests you.

Overall, your stuff is OK. it will not likely blow anyone away and if you stay around where your scores are you can likely kiss Georgetown goodbye. But there is always hope. Practice on your scores, keep your grades higher, and do things you enjoy. If you do that, then you have a shot. You have time.
Also, write great essays, this will likely be the only thing NO ONE will duplicate. Work hard on them. I can’t stress it enough. Good luck!

Thanks, also i forgot to post I take the hardest course load possible at my school and am going to be volunteering at a hospital and alive hospice soon. One more thing, I will plan on early decision to this school, do u think I may have a chance now, including if my SAT may be higher, such as a 2100? And should I give them my ACT score, what score should I aim for for that?

ACT: 32+

What’s your backup plan?

I will try carnigie mellon, if that doesnt work out then tufts, do you think I have a shot at either?

Well, your SAT is only considered without writing (which is usually ones best part). I got in witha 1420 two part, but I would aim around 1350 at the absolute lowest to 1600 (for schools of this caliber a 2200+ three part is thrown around as the magic number). Usually if you break 1400 I don’t think the score will hurt you. The hospital and hospice work is good only if you can write on it, either negatively or positively. It shows maturity and experience. Georgetown only has Early Action and it is actually no advantage. It could even be slightly more competitive. The good news is you will not be rejected, only deferred in EA. for an ACT I would aim for about a 33+.

You can’t use a highly selective school as a backup to another highly selective school in your context. These two are fine to have as reaches in your situation, though.

Okay, so for Carnigie Mellon and tufts university, would I be likely at all to get in there?

And that’s no backup plan. Those two schools are only slightly less selective than Georgetown. You need a good safety, which we can’t really help you with because as it stands now your scores are too low. Plus, it’s too early.
Those schools aren’t even close to likely, even assuming a 2100 SAT. Perhaps tufts would be a match witha 2100 3.8+ but that’s as far as I will go with assumptions.
