Have you considered applying EA? I’d say you have a good chance but applying EA could help you even more.

I have considered, actually. You think that’ll make me look more interested?
And thank you very much!

Looking at your resume, I would say you have an excellent chance at getting in. Your application has numerous strengths and no apparent weaknesses. Your extracurriculars show a lot of variety and dedication and that’s a big point for the Admissions Committee.

You will definitely get in, I’d bet money on it. Your participation in Model UN is especially impressive since you were president 2 years and won many awards, and your participation in cheerleading and dance will also look really really good. You have an awesome gap and awesome sat scores. I’d see no reason why you wouldn’t get in unless you totally bomb the application, which i doubt. Good luck!

I wouldn’t say she’ll DEFINITELY get in. Keep in mind that Gtown does not consider the Writing section of the SAT at all (which is your strongest section), so, while her SAT is still quite good, it isn’t guaranteeing acceptance, either. All in all, I think that you have a good shot of getting in (solid stats, nice ECs), but, as nina said, I’d apply EA

Thanks, you guys, I really appreciate the honest feedback! I’ll definitely apply EA :)

Can Georgetown really avoid the writing section? I know they say they don’t consider it, but having a 750 on there definitely can’t hurt.

okay chance

While you still have to submit the SAT score report, there is not a section for SAT Writing on their application. So they will completely ignore it (whether it be an 800 or a 200)

Oh, and I also have 500+ volunteer hours. Hope that’ll help me!

Scrivener, something tells me that a 200 would raise an eyebrow or two. You’re probably right that a high score won’t help awful much, but a low score could definitely be a red flag for the committee (even though officially it shouldn’t be)

^ JGator I think you hit the nail on the head and agree that a low score would send up a red flag. Admissions will receive all SAT scores and then super score them with the CR + M but they can hardly ignore the writing. When I visited Gtown for information session and tour, we were told that the writing score is treated much like an SATII (which are recommended but not required). I would think that it is another measure the ADCOM can use to assess your academic potential.

Hypothetical situation: Just say the ADCOM is on the fence about two applicants vying for the last spot to fill the class. These two applicants have exactly the same CR/M & SATII scores and very comparable EC’s with the same outstanding essays. One has a 610 W and the other an 800 W. With no other way distinguish the applicants, I’ll bet they choose the one with an 800.
