Hi, what are my chances to Georgetown University? I’m applying to this as a high reach.
I’m a Canadian citizen (but I have a SSN because my parents are american but i’m not)
Female, Asian, first generation, not looking for need based-financial aid (not qualified)
GPA (Canadian grading is different but my grade average translates to a 4.0 GPA)
ACT: 29 (weaker point and not looking to retest)
ECs:
-School Prefect: (most prestigious leadership role, mostly only used in Canadian and UK private schools, same as the ones you’ve seen in Harry Potter)
-Leader in Peer Tutoring
-Vice Chair of Public Relations Council
-Sr. Girls Softball
-Community Service
-Drama Council
-Model UN (4 years, travelling international team)
My essay is pretty good and my recs should be good. What are my chances?
I wanna apply to Georgetown too. I didn’t take the act but I got a 1380 on the new sat and a 3.85 gpa. I think you have a decent shot, but I honestly don’t know. Georgetown is a very competitive school. Good luck though
With a 29 ACT and no hook, your chances are slim. Do you have subject tests to submit? Georgetown likes to see 3.
Georgetown ~strongly~ recommends 3 SAT IIs. your ACT seems a little bit on the low side. what school are you applying to?
No, I didn’t take any subject tests. Canadian schools do not encourage/prepare students for any kind of standardized testing…and that’s included in my school’s report. I have a pretty special essay that talks about my family’s history with political strife etc and I’m first gen, and maybe some other little hooks

That is not a good reason not to take Subject Tests. The UK system does not prepare kids for standardised tests either and kids here take the Subject Tests and do very well.
