Georgetown University Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

Well based on previous years’ threads, many decisions come out much earlier (as quickly as May 1st if I remember correctly).

Does anyone know if the alumni interviews are indicative of anything? I’m having mine on Saturday but just glossing through this thread it looks like they aren’t offered to everyone.

@Sam998 I think its just based on location and availability of an alumni. That’s why they made it optional, because not everyone may get the opportunity since the determining factors that are out of their hands.

Yeah I had an alumni interview last year but got denied

Hey guys! My name is Bridget and I’m the outgoing of Secretary of Transfer Affairs for Georgetown’s Student Government (GUSA). I transferred to Georgetown in Fall 2013 from a business school outside of Boston and am currently a senior in MSB. I really liked my first school, but totally love it here and transferring was one of the best choices I ever made. If you have any questions about life at Georgetown, or transferring to the Hilltop, please message us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/georgetowntransfers/ Happy to answer some questions here, too! Can’t wait to hear from you

@BlueandGold123 thanks for replying me back. Is it hard to transfer from community college to high selective school like Georgetown? It is my dream school and I am really ready to study very hard to achieve my dream.

@TransferHoyaSaxa Hi! I’m a current senior who is strongly considering applying to Georgetown as a transfer student. Since I do not have much of informations, I’d really want to get help from you if possible. I’d appreciate your help so much! I clicked on that website but it is not working. How should I reach you or other transfer students? Thank you so much

Edit to this: if the link isn’t working, just search “GUSA Transfer Council” in Facebook and you’ll find us!

@freshlemon123 the best advice I can give is to do very well in your first year at your first college; transferring isn’t a guarantee, but if you do decide you want to transfer next year, you’ll find that good grades/leadership/involvement is a common thread for the most competitive applicants. Also, while I’m so glad I transferred, you may find that you really like the school you end up at (and that’s ok too).

I got an email today to set up an interview! Anyone else?

@LGfromDC I did also!!! You go to AU correct?

@hershey789 Yup!

^ @hershey789 and @LGfromDC I got an alumni interview as well, and I’m also from AU. Mine is over the phone though…

@chubwagon same… But that is still better than no interview!

@chubwagon @LGfromDC my alumni is having me meet her on saturday in a starbucks in georgetown. I wish you guys best of luck! Phone interviews are much easier in my opinion because you can have notes in front of you at all times

@hershey789 Good point but I think in person might actually be better. It’s a lot easier to communicate your story and passion for the school when you’re facing someone. Also, you avoid accidentally cutting the interviewer off while they’re talking.

My Georgetown alumni interview was among the least nerve-wracking I’ve ever had. Super informative too!

My interview was a ton of fun. Definitely don’t be nervous!

@bdhyea97 @keurimja do you have any advice? My interview is on saturday and any advice would be great! I am applying to MSB btw

@hershey789 If your interview is anything like mine was, just be yourself, demonstrate what you know about the school, and have questions ready. Treat it just like a conversation with a friend and it shouldn’t be too stressful. I know that sounds like generic information, but that’s what I put forward and my alumni interviewer seemed impressed. Hope that helps!

I’m applying for SFS btw.

@hershey789 I would say definitely do your research on the school and demonstrate that your interest is in more than the school’s prestige, location, etc. Definitely just be yourself, demonstrate that you’re passionate. You’ll do great!
