Which is a better school for premed? Take into account difficulty, individual attention, getting all the classes I would need, advising. I will be transferring there as a Sophomore and want to know which would be better.

Georgetown, hands down. Of course, if you are a Virginian, then there’s a substantial financial advantage to picking UVA.

Georgetown will give you much smaller class sizes. I have a good friend who did pre-med at UVA. In one of her science classes, there were over 700 people, spread across 3 rooms. Obviously, the professor was only in one of those, so about 400 of the students were just watching class on closed-circuit TV. Most of your classes won’t be quite that bad at UVA, but count on numbers in the hundreds. Even as you get up to the higher level classes, you’ll still be looking at similar numbers. You may end up with a small handful of small seminars later, but it’s a battle.

Small class sizes have a number of advantages, but one of the biggest ones is that you get to know your professors better which leads to opportunities to get involved in research, a better learning experience, and much better letters of recommendation when it comes time to apply for medical school.

It’s also much harder to get the classes you want at UVA, and more of them will be taught by grad students. In terms of difficulty, though, you’re looking at a similar level.

Thank you that was sooo helpful! Class sizes were definitely a big concern of mine and that was a big help!
