Georgetown v. Dartmouth

dartmouth has the highest mid-career salary for its grads of any school. period. thats a good reason to go there.

And some Dartmouth grads actually pay taxes on those earnings too.

wow, when did the posts become so full of content and information instead of vitriol and ad hominem attacks?

Seriously guys, this guy is asking for helpful information, not bickering. Not one person can really say whether Gtown is better than Dmouth or vice versa because each person values each aspects of the college differently. One might like the large fraternity presence at Dmouth, and one might loathe it. Who knows?

That being said, it is my opinion (get it, opinion?) that Gtown may have better opportunities than Dmouth in the department of poli sci or international relations. I live near DC, and the internship and job opportunities in political science is really, really plentiful in the DC area. I’m not discounting Hanover, but I have to say that as far as job opportunities and real life experience goes for anyone trying to major in IR or Poli Sci, Gtown has the upper hand because it’s so close to DC. Whether you take that into value is your decision.

Hmmm…well, i applied to both (and they are my #1 and #2 choices)

For anyone else reading this in a similar situation, I think the best thing to do is wait until april. Chances are that you’re going to be rejected from both and you’ve just wasted hours trying to decide (sorry, having already been rejected, im pretty frank about this sort of thing). However, there is also a good chance that you’ll be rejected from one, but not the other. Problem solved! Ok, now if by some fluke caused by the college admission gods that you’re accepted into both, then flip a coin and quit your whining. They are both AMAZING schools. Simply put, if you want to study politics, gov’n, etc or desire living in an urban culture, go to Georgetown. If you want the outdoorsy, small community, etc aspects out of college go to Dartmouth.

Everyone keeps repeating these facts over and over and over again.

This isnt hard. Why concern yourself with the tiny details. It’ll only make things harder on yourself. Ask yourself what you want already! Just remember that (if you get accepted into both) you are in a position 1,000’s of high school seniors have dreamed about being in for their entire lives.

^finally a mature person on collegeconfidential

Of course, for those lucky enough to find themselves in such a fortunate position, it probably comes down to the little details when deciding which school. I know that’s what’s happening for me, even if my situation is slightly different. It may be that the OP is accepted at both and trying to just get some advice for such a huge decision, and we can’t really begrudge him that.
