Georgetown vs. George Mason

Hey guys! I’m a transfer student and have been accepted to Georgetown and George Mason, but I’m torn on which school to attend. I don’t receive any aid at Georgetown, so I would be going into about $20-$40K in debt once I receive my bachelor’s degree, and I still want to eventually go for my MBA. I’m in state for George Mason, and I wouldn’t have to take out any loans. I’m going into sports management and business though, and I feel that Georgetown would open more doors for me in the business, and I’d make more money in the long run. I’m a little scared that I’m going to fall into the trap of giving a school all my money and ending up in the same place no matter which degree I go for but with Georgetown I’ll have a ton of debt. What do you think I should do?

Is it $20k-$40k per year or in total debt to attend Georgetown? I think something like $20k overall debt is manageable.

Georgetown will certainly open more doors, but it doesn’t mean it will get you in. If you are capable, you can still make it from George Mason, although it is a tougher hill to climb. In addition, if you end up getting an MBA, your undergrad won’t matter. If you are a Virginia resident, UVA or William and Mary would have been better options. Did you look into these schools?

Yes, it would be about $20-40K overall, and that’s not including scholarships that I might receive that hopefully will bring that total down. I did look into those schools but they weren’t for me, I haven’t been in the VA area very long and they weren’t schools that I saw myself being happy at.

Honestly, something like $20k debt is not that bad and $40k is around the average student debt. Obviously no debt is preferable, but I think Georgetown has a lot to offer, especially if you are interested in business. $20k -$40k is a pretty big range. Do you have a more concrete idea of how much it’ll cost and if you can get scholarships?

The median starting salary out of Georgetown is $65,000 and GMU is a little vague with the majority between $30,000- $70,000.

If your total debt does not exceed 40K IMHO, I say Georgetown hands down. Another option would be to go to GM for undergrad and then try to get into a name school for graduate school. As the previous poster said, if you do that, undergrad really won’t matter.

Georgetown without a doubt.

GMU is good in sports management, it’s not just “a program” there.
Does Georgetown have a specialized program for sports management?

GEORGETOWN

Georgetown is worth way more than $40k over Goerge Mason.

You said you want to go for an MBA. That normally requires a couples of years work experience. What do you want to do before your MBA?

Why is the range so big? 20k and 40k are very different numbers.
