Planing on doing either accounting or finance ( maybe accounting at this stage of economy)
how would you compare these two schools' business departments?

yes, i am in the same boat with the same question and have heard many different things. People say that gtown has better finance recruitment with ibanks and such, but some argue that notre dame has good recruitment too. And you really cannot argue that the ND alumni network is among the strongest in the world.

As far as rankings go (as much as they matter if at all), Mendoza School of Business in ND is ranked like third this year, and is always very strong, whereas McDonough is not as strong in the rankings as Mendoza.

I asked a similar type question on the ibanking forums.
But i would like to know this. anyone?

If your going to go into Accounting I would look into UIUC. It's quite a bit cheap then Notre Dame even out of state

I'm actually accepted to UIUC as well. But i'm an international, so theres not that much of a difference on the price.

but as far as notre dame vs. georgetown, which would be better?

hey ohz23, did you get anything from the ibanking forum?

not much from my post. but the issue has been talked about and i have searched it but it seems to be just an argument with both sides hating on each other, one side defending nd and the other attacking it. i dont really know what to think haha

Georgetown definitely has more I-Banking recruitment, they are one of the top wall street targets. ND has a great alumni network of course. Don't put a ton into the rankings, they are fairly meaningless.

I suggest you look into the cultures of the two schools. They are very different. ND is not for everyone, I have extensive experience with both schools.

Definitely Georgetown, but ugh.. the area kind of suck though. University of Michigan has great accounting programs

Notre Dame accounting is one of the top 5 ranked in the country, so take a look. Also, don't look at UIUC. Although it is an exceptional business school, if cost is a concern they will provide you with essentially 0 financial aid, due to lack of funding.
ND has probably the strongest alumni network in the country. The high-caliber of the school's academics coupled with the most rabidly loyal alumni make the ND network hard to turn down.
Going to ND certainly won't negatively affect you in terms of I-Bank recruitment. There just are more of the type of kids at GTown who want(or think they want) that IBanking, all about money kind of job. A lot of ND kids go into consulting or accounting, neither of which require them to move to NYC, generally(so a lot stay in the Midwest, esp. Chicago)

Note to above posted. Notre Dame gives out almost no aid according to my friend who applied there.

and it's 50 k compared to UIUC 28 k

True, but the 28k only applies to In-states

again, UIUC is still quite a bit cheaper

Notre Dame
Cost of Attendance 2008-2009
Tuition and Fees $36,850
Room and Board 9,830
Books and Supplies 950
Personal Expenses 900
Total Cost of Attendance: $48,530

UIUC
Tuition and fees $26,024 - $30,176*
Books & supplies $1,200
Room and board (20 meals/week) $8,764
Other expenses** $2,510
TOTAL ESTIMATED COSTS $38,498 - $42,650

Also notice that Notre Dame expects you only to pay $900 for anything extra including travel where UIUC has $2500 factored into it.

Rankings are subjective and sometimes controversial. However, here are rankings of the top accounting programs (undergraduate) from the U. News & World Report 2009 rankings.

Texas

Univ. of Illinois

Univ. of Pennsylvania

BYU

Univ. of Southern California

Univ. of Michigan

Notre Dame

i also heard ND has no hot girls :P

haha very nice.

Also when you look at who the Big 4 prefer for a school you will see their #1 is U of I.

Just another point for UIUC.

Oh and there's some new business building...it's just a brand new state of the art one.

You sure are enthusiastic about your school!

haha you bet

haha well i know i want to go to finance and initially ibanking maybe then to imanaging and such.

I went on an east coast college tour like two years ago and remembered that Gtown was my favorite school, i loved it. But i spend a couple days at Notre Dame and absolutely loved it, im thinking over Gtown. And im just trying to find the right school for me that I will do very well in and have a fun time in, and most importantly, put me in the best position for my career.

Hard choice, but the nd family just made it seem like that was the choice for me. I dont knoww haha.

haha and btw ND has some cute girls from what i saw :)
