Georgetown VS UW Madison (Business)?

Hey this is very last minute but I am stuck between two schools so I would appreciate any feedback that anybody can give as soon as possible!

Here are some pros & cons.

UW Madison: in-state tuition. 20,000 around. Great undergrad business school, Grainger. Usually open only for sophomore and juniors but I got in the early business program as a freshman. (Only 25 ppl were admitted). Big campus (which I like). Lively student body. I live in Madison so it would be easy to visit parents and I would be familiar with the area.

Georgetown: technically ranked higher overall as a school. Located in D.C so many opportunities for Business. Good business school. I haven't actually visited the campus since summer (when I wasn't paying attention because I didn't want to apply there at first and there were no students there). Smaller campus (which I don't really like). Great aid. Only costs around 23,000. Main issue: it's a little bit far from home & I am not very familiar with student life/campus. I can see myself going to UW easily but it's harder to imagine myself at Gtown b/c I haven't visited recently.

I am interested in business, especially International Business. I would also like to do English.

Btw, does anybody know if McDonough or Grainger is the better business school?

Any and all advice, comment, or opinion will be GREATLY appreciated.

MSB is the better business school. Opportunities like this don’t come around often. Take Georgetown, if it doesn’t work out transfer back to UW, no big deal. People decide to transfer all the time, although rarely from Georgetown. More likely than not you will be happy that you decided to take the chance. I see only upside from trying this out and getting out of your comfort zone to experience something a little new. You have nearly nothing to lose and a lot to gain in terms of post graduation opportunities and the chance to experience a new environment with a very diverse student body at an elite university.

I would also want to know what led you to apply to Georgetown in the first place and why you think that they accepted you. Reflecting on these question may also help you decide.

i just wasn’t even sure about the business schools compared to each other. According to businessweek, Georgetown is ranked 10th, UW Madison 23rd or 27th ish. According to US News, Madison is 13th, Georgetown 19th. So that’s why I’m a little iffy about the business school.

As for why I applied, I decided to because Georgetown was located in D.C & it had a good business program. I was applying to schools with good undergraduate business programs.

Do you know if Georgetown is extremely politics-based? I’m not super political so I have some concerns about teh school’s atmosphere…

No problem.

Your diploma will say Georgetown University. In the rankings that most people pay attention to GU is greater than UW. So no worries about prestige. Also research the types of firms that recruit at Georgetown they tend to be the most prestigious firms on Wall Street. UW can not say the same and is a testament to Georgetown’s prestige in the business world.

As far as the political atmosphere, most business students are like you. The SFS students and government majors tend to have more of an interest in politics. The pre-meds, humanities students, business students, english majors, etc. tend to have less of an interest in politics. However, being in DC will expose you a bit to politics and government which isn’t necessarily a bad thing considering the role government plays in bailing out businesses when the economy takes a down turn. In fact, no matter where one goes to study business a basic understanding of government is important. Georgetown’s location facilitates the acquisition of this important knowledge.

Ok. Thanks a lot for your time and advice! =)
