Georgetown VS. WASHU

I am premed and I have no idea where i would go if the two schools i still have a chance at do not pan out...

any ideas? Is there a significant difference between the two in terms of accept rates and such?

bump no opinions?

Georgetown usually has better placement at pretty much everything. WashU is stronger academically in most cases. For pre-med I would choose WashU but I hear the competition is fierce.

bump bump bump.....its decision time everyone and i really need help on this issue!!!!

i am going for a career in academic medicine ( i'd like to work at a major research institution and have private practice as well) and feel that undergraduate education is critical to this end...i want to make sure i'll go to the school at which i'll have the best opportunities to get into top medical schools

bump bump...

go where you'll be happy. Whether you attend Georgetown or WashU is not going to, in itself, determine your med school opportunities. The only advantage WashU premeds really have is the fact that WashU has a top 5 med school nearby where one can easily get internships.

Here in CA most people have not even heard of WashU but the GU name means a lot. Not that you should base your decision on this. And if you are premed go to the place where you can achieve the highest GPA.

go to Penn (provided you get in!!!)

good luck

yeah of course thats assuming i get in...

the question is if i do not get in- washu vs. georgetown for premed...

georgetown has way more recognition

it has more recognition overall but what about strictly in terms of premed placement

My honest opinion. I wouldn't transfer if I were you if it means going to gtown or wash u. While I think gtown and wash may be a step up from Emory, the difference is negligible. Perhaps, wait for a place like Penn next year or something. That is just some advice.

Perception of prestige varies greatly. I would say Gtown is a huge step up from Emory and the difference between it and Penn is negligible.

i agree-but i'm trying to force myself to think in the context of premedical training...

i'm from new york-of course georgetown will have a better name than washu just on the street to some random person...

For pre-med, WashU is the stronger school. While the man in the street may not know WashU, those in the medical fields know it well and have very high regard for it. As you know, WashU's med school is ranked #4 in the US. Also, it's an ideal school to get the finest pre-med training in a less cut-throat atmosphere. (Pre-med is tough in any elite school, but it doesn't have to be cut-throat)

thanks for the input nervous

I know a professor frm Gtown. U will run into him if ur premed. If everyone there is like him, u gonna hv a pretty horrible time there. The guy is a total snob and very rude.

there are crappy professors at every school...I don't see how that's relevant.

So have you reached a decision yet?

go to JHU.

i sent in a deposit at washu to buy some time as i do not have to make any georgetown decision until the 15th, i find out from penn on friday, and find out about the columbia waitlist hopefully before the 15th

my dad, although wanting me to be closer to home, loves washu...

he was at washu for his residency and emory for his fellowship in cardiology...he understood why i didn't like emory, in fact he liked washu much much much better

he thinks it would be a great school to go to if i didn't get into the others...
