Georgetown waitlist class of 2024

I think Georgetown only gives need based aid. It doesn’t matter if she got in Early, Regular, or off of the Wait List - no matter what she would not get a merit scholarship, only need based. And if you ran the NPC and it doesn’t look like you will get need based aid, she may not get anything.

Does anyone know how long the waitlist is this year? I’m assuming it is a lot longer than normal but just curious if anybody on here has any insight on how many kids will be let off? Anxiously waiting until May 15th

My brother got off the waitlist at Vanderbilt today, so clearly waitlists are being tapped into much earlier than usual. I know the Cornell, Rice, and UCLA waitlists have also seen movement in the last few days, so I’m expecting Georgetown to start making offers soon as well. Probably sometime early next week (as opposed to closer to May 15).

My daughter got an email yesterday from her admissions counselor asking to set up a call to discuss waitlist. She declined because she decided to accept elsewhere

@14Maddox the letter was from her Georgetown admissions counselor?

Did anyone else get that?

@collegemomjam it was from her admissions counselor

My brother did not get that email @14Maddox! Congratulations to your D for getting it — and for committing elsewhere! May I ask where she’s going (and if she got off the waitlist there as well)?

There was an article in the Hoya saying GT took 100 more students than planned as a sort of cv19 insurance policy. It also said they expected to tap into their wait list.

@14Maddox congrats to your daughter!!! which school at georgetown did she apply to?

@838388383 she applied to Arts and Science. She will be going to Notre Dame. Good luck!

@geckogeek Vanderbilt took 800 extra kids in the regular cycle as a sort of insurance policy just like Georgetown took 100 extra. And Vanderbilt is already accepting kids off the waitlist, so I’m expecting Georgetown’s waitlist to see lots of movement.

Do you think Georgetown will go to online classes in the fall or reopen for their students? There hasn’t been a statement by the school and most schools have stated their fall plan with optimism that they will try to open and have students on campus.

I could be wrong but my feeling is most of the schools will end up doing the same thing…especially “peer” schools. So while some schools have said they are planning to open, I think that is the plan/hope across the board but they are all taking it one day at a time and will adjust plans as necessary. I believe Georgetown may have pushed the start date for some grad students out a bit (2 or 3 weeks?)…so maybe the are considering a delayed opening? But they are probably waiting it out. We are certainly hoping they all welcome students back on campus.

I hope you’re right! If offered a waitlist spot and then told it will be virtual learning for a semester could be tough especially if other schools are open with students on campus. A delayed start with all freshmen together would be a great option.

Read on Reddit that several people called by AO on Friday and admitted from waitlist; From reddit:
“i got one on friday to. The person ended up calling me and They told me that the admissions committee will be meeting on monday and that each regional rep will b referring names/recommending names. They basically asked if im ok with her referring my name still/if i’m still interested.”
“Hi everyone! Wanted to let you all know that I found out I got off the waitlist today! I applied EA, was deferred, then waitlisted. Got an email and call on Friday from my admissions officer saying I was being considered for admission off the waitlist and she would update me as soon as they knew anything. She called me yesterday to let me know I got in and I received my official acceptance letter today. It’s been a long journey for me and I’m very happy to be admitted and I’m really hoping for the best for the rest of you guys!”

Do you know if that was from just the college or SFS or McDonough as well?

Wow, an admissions officer called the above person on the Reddit account on a Sunday and today he received an acceptance letter!

has anyone from the Pacific Northwest gotten a call? also @magiemae could u send me the link to the reddit thread?

I’m just making a comment to the above post from “obmom”. I couldn’t find the link on the reddit thread.

Getting a bit nervous, I hope they continue to take people off the waitlist.
