Hey! Georgetown is my dream school. I really want to become a Foreign Service Officer. What would you say my odds of getting in are?
I have a 4.0 GPA, 34 ACT, 9 AP’s (all 4s and 5s), a job as a political staffer for a local judge, going to work as a poll clerk, probably NMSF, Furman Scholar, HPU scholar, NaNoWriMo winner, youth mentor, AIDS refugee worker, President of school MUN/PolySci/HistorySociety/EnglishSociety, and awesome Letters of Recommendation.
I would really appreciate advice about what you think my chances are.
Also, does anyone know what the financial aid situation is for divorced parents? Do they look at only the custodial parent’s income or the income of both, whether or not the other parent is in the picture?
I think you are a match but don’t bet on it. Georgetown has accepted and denied people with worse and better stats. They aren’t very clear on what they are looking for. Fin aid is combined income. Does not matter if separated or not unless one parent has been out of the picture for a while. If needed, look into the non-custodial parent financial aid waiver. Chance me back!
I think that you are a match as soon as you take some SAT subject tests. Georgetown requires 3 subject Tests and you do not have much time to take them.
Thanks and chance me back.
Not sure if this means much, but my friend had worse stats and got accepted into the School of Foreign Service. Your stats and extracurriculars look great- love the internships! That’s really what most colleges look for because they want to see that you’re suited to work in the real world.
Your scores are on the higher end for Georgetown, so that’s a plus. You seem like a driven candidate; I don’t think it would hurt to show some interest by maybe emailing a rep or AdCom (don’t get to obsessive, though). The one thing that I find a little lacking is the ECs. While you do have great leadership inside of school, I don’t see many ECs that you do outside of school. If you have some that you haven’t listed, great. However, if you don’t, I would try to do something that would guide you towards becoming a Foreign Service Officer. Overall, I think you have a better chance of getting in than the acceptance rate.
Chance me?
You have a great chance! Heck, you have a great chance everywhere! Be sure to really show drive and passion in your essays. I really believe that they can improve your application a lot. Also, don’t forget to take your subject SATs!
Chance me back?
