ok, before anyone get's mad, being ranked #23 is not low. but georgetown seems like it should be higher, don't you think? there's probably a lot of factors that go into deciding the ranks, but gtown's a lot harder to get into vanderbilt and emory for example (#18 and #20)

yeah georgetown's ranking is really low for its acceptance rate...why is that?

I remember one student informing me that because many part-time professors teach here - especially in the SFS - our rating is lowered in terms of full-time faculty.

Some also suggest that our low endowment is deleterious, but I am not sure that it hurts as much as commonly thought.

doesn't hurt as much as your unneeded elevated diction

wow, tension in this thread.

bluehunnydew,

the process you came to conclude that gtown should be ranked higher can go the other way as well. you can figure that gtowns low acceptance rate actually carries gtown to a higher ranking than it deserves...just food for thought.

i'd personally be more concerned by the relatively weak peer assessment. Especially because it's so hard to get into and because it's obviously quite prestigious, I thought it would do much better than just a 4.0. I guess complaining about a 4.0 may sound kind of stupid, but are you telling me that other colleges view Georgetown and Emory as equals? I sure don't.

what exactly is peer assessment anyway?

From my USN mag...

"The peer assessment survey allows the top academics we contact-presidents, provosts, and deans of admission-to account for intangibles such as faculthy dedication to teaching. Each individual is asked to rate peer schools' academic programs on a scale from 1(marginal) to 5(distinguished). Those who don't know enough about a school to evaluate it fairly are asked to mark "dont know." Synovate, an opinion-research firm based near Chicago, collected the data; 57 percent of the 4,098 people who were sent questionnaires responded."

take it easy on Emory... i personally think Emory's rank is too high... something more like 17/18 in front of vandy, notre dame, and possibly rice would be reasonable... yet i agree that georgetown doesnt deserve to be 23rd... schools like JH, WUSTL, and Cornell being ranked so much lower seems unfair

correction: mixed up high/low

doesn't hurt as much as your unneeded elevated diction

Get used to it, its one of my favorite aspects about Georgetown students.
