So I'm thinking about dropping a class, but I only took four this semester and I'm wondering how it will affect my HOPE. I know to have HOPE I have to be a full time student, but if I drop I will only have three classes. Someone said they think since I started as a full time student I'm good to drop and I won't lose HOPE this semester, someone else said thy don't think thats true. Any ideas?

Don’t listen to someone. Someone is notorious for being wrong. Contact the finaid office and ask them so you get the correct info. For most things finaid related it is the number of credits, not the number of classes. Usually 12 credits is considered full-time. But don’t listen to me, I’m just someone. Contact the finaid office.

Definitely speak to your financial aid office.

That said, it is not required to be full time to receive HOPE. The funded amount is based on the number of hours attempted. If you withdraw from a class and receive a “W” or other official transcript notation that the course was attempted, your tuition due and HOPE funding will generally remain the same. If you withdraw early enough to receive a refund, then this refund will need to be used to repay the HOPE grant.
