Could anyone please tell me how "good" this school is?
School national ranking, best majors, etc etc.

I need a basis to the information that I need to explain to my parents about this school because they LITERALLY think it's a bad school.. I doubt it though.

P.S..... I'm Asian... So maybe that might help with understanding my parents' point of view.. lol.

One of the top schools for engineering in the Country only behind MIT/Stanford/Caltech… If you live in Georgia and want to study engineering than GT is a no brainer.

PS. I had a really really really hard time picking Cornell over GT

Point out that GT is ranked by US News as one of the best doctoral granting engineering schools. You could also say its industrial engineering major is ranked first in the nation (graduate degree), and research some of its other majors. Then you could point to how much cutting edge research is done there by showing them GT’s website. You could also mention how GT grads have some of the highest overall salaries of any school in the Southeast (partially a function of being a hugely STEM school, but w/e).

Much thanks to the both of you!

Per Wikipedia (sorry):

Georgia Tech is consistently ranked among the best universities in the United States and the world. For over a decade, Georgia Tech has remained in the top ten public universities in the United States.[53] In 20082010, U.S. News & World Report ranked Tech as the No. 7 public university, and No. 35 among all universities.[53] In 2010, The Times Higher Education World University Rankings ranked Georgia Tech 19th in the United States, 27th in the world, 10th in Engineering & IT, 20th in North America, and 5th among public universities.[54] Tech has the No. 4 undergraduate engineering program, and the No. 4 graduate engineering program.[53] All of Tech’s undergraduate engineering programs are among the Top 10 in their field including its Schools of Industrial Engineering (1st), Mechanical (2nd), Aerospace (2nd), Biomedical (3rd), Civil (3rd), Electrical (5th), Environmental (5th), Computer (6th), Materials (7th) and Chemical (9th),[53][55] and Industrial Engineering (1st), Biomedical (2nd), and Aerospace (2nd) at the graduate level.[56] In 2010, Georgia Techs College of Business rose from 31st the previous year to 28th, continuing its rapid upward trend[57] Diverse Issues in Higher Education has ranked Tech No. 1 at the bachelor’s level, No. 2 at the master’s level, and No. 1 at the doctoral level in terms of producing African American engineering graduates.[40] In 2010, U.S. News & World Report ranked Tech as the No. 26 “MBA” program.[58] Tech also boasts the No. 30 Physics program in the nation, specializing in Nonlinear Dynamics (in which it ranks 5th nationwide) and Condensed Matter Physics.[59][60] U.S. News & World Report ranked the graduate chemistry program at No. 26 overall with the Physical Chemistry specialty ranked at No. 14.[61] The Math department is ranked at No. 30 overall and at No. 8 in Discrete Math and Combinatorics.[62] It is known as the best public university in the southern United States, as well as the best return on investment among all U.S. universities.[63]

Georgia Tech is one of the top schools in engineering, so if you are a Georgia resident, it is an excellent bargain if you want to study engineering. There are competitive merit scholarships available (e.g. President’s).

However, humanities and social studies are somewhat more limited there.
