<p>Hello, everyone. This fall I am applying to GA Tech (my first choice, actually) and I would like to know what people here think my chances of getting in are.</p>

<p>I moved to the US from Russia after my freshman year (so by graduation I will have 3 years in the US High school and 1 in Russian), some of my russian grades a hurt (different education system), and my sophomore year the only Honors class I took was math (easily got 99). Next year, I got out of the ESL (people who moved to the US take this class instead of lit, usually people are stuck in this class for 2-4 years). My junior year I took Honors Lit (got 89, damn it), Honors Pre-Calc (100), AP US History (84), Honors Anatomy (94-95), Web-Design(97) and Video-Production (95). Next year I am taking AP Calc 2, AP Gov/Econ, AP Physics, AP Psychology, AP Lit, and Chorus (yeah, funny, I just sincerely want to try it out). My GPA is about 3.75-3.9. My ranking is not that good, but it is only because it ranks by using grades from classes such as art (got B in it, because I took it in russia) and Phys Ed.(B), and what hurts me most are my classes from Russia.</p>

<p>Also, just for clarification. Only russian classes I got B for are Phys. Ed., Physical Science, Math and Art, while I got A's for russian classes too (Bio, Russian 1 and 2, Geography, World History, and others) and 2 of them aren't even considered for GA Tech GPA. Also, I think that adcoms will see it as a good thing that each year I take harder and harder classes and my grades are higher and higher each year.</p>

<p>SAT Reasoning:
Cumulative: 1990 (I retake it again in October)
Math: 750
Writing: 640
Critical Reading: 600 (I know, I need to improve it)</p>

<p>SAT II:
Math: 790 (just needed 1 more problem right, damn)
US History: 740</p>

<p>Also, I just found my ACT scores. They are not super-great, but math section is the highest again, and reading is slightly higher than on SAT (which counts towards GT superscore). Does it even make sense to report my ACT scores?</p>

Organizing own Math Tournament as a senior project
Fluent in Python and HTML coding
Contributed to some small Open-Source projects on GitHub
Have my own public repository on GitHub with various programs on Python. I update it as soon as I write something new, which happens fairly often, considering I am still learning
[possible] Maybe (if by the time of my college application I will figure out this beast called Java), I will release some apps for Android Market
I am bilingual (Russian/English)</p>

<p>(Also, I was a member of a Photography Club and Drama club, but I don't want to list it on the app, because I did not actually do anything there or contributed in any way)</p>

<p>Also, if it helps, I am a white male and a Georgia resident, so I apply as an in-state student</p>

<p>P.S. I think, I am going to apply Regular Decision, because I plan to retake SAT and my first semester grades are going to help me too</p>

<p>I honestly do not see any problem with you getting accepted to Georgia Tech. As long as you ar in state. It is typically easier for instate students to get in. Are your courses weighted? What is your class rank? Other than that your EC’s and SAT are perfect for GA Tech.</p>

<p>My class rank is not that good, but it is because our school does not distinct between hard classes and easy classes (+as I said, classes such as PE and Art from Russia), for example, a guy getting 5 A’s in all regular classes will get a higher rank than a guy taking all AP’s and getting 4 A’s and 1 B. My current is about 65-70/500, but if I do well during my first semester, I am sure I can get in top 10%. And sorry, I don’t quite understand what you meant by ‘weighted,’ can you explain?</p>

<p>Your class rank is not bad at all. @13% you really shouldn’t stress about getting into GA Tech. GA Tech’s Admit Rate: 54.55%, Mid-50% SAT: 1960 - 2160. Also, honestly you are Russian with a writing score of 640. That is hella good. Do you currently go to high school in Georgia? When I say weighted I mean like your Pre-calc H and APUSH. Does that have additional points added? For ex: at my school I for a 91% in Pre-Calc H and weighted it is a 98%. </p>

<p>What are you trying to major in? If its engineering then… You have to raise that SAT score to about 2000+. </p>

<p>Wow, that PE class must have been rough. I could only imagine a Russian man yelling.</p>

<p>Yes, I go to school in Georgia. No, they don’t add points to advanced classes. Yes, I want to major in engineering and I will take SAT again in October, though it is going to be my only chance to improve my SAT score, so I am trying to think what to do if my results won’t be better than current. Tech’s website says that they don’t take your major into consideration for admission purposes <a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission”>Blow the Whistle! <p>P.S. PE teacher just did not like me for being smarter than his favorites (just regular dumb jocks), so he tried to ‘even it out’ by giving me B’s in his class.</p>

<p>Your in Georgia so it should not be a problem. Being that you are from Russia, are you eligible for HOPE Scholarship? Nope, they say that they do not take it for consideration, but lets be real most people go to GA Tech for engineering. </p>

<p>Yes, I qualify for HOPE. All they need is that you graduate from Georgian school with appropriate GPA, be at least a permanent resident for at least a year before the start of your college school year, and live here for at least a year before the start of your college</p>

<p>i think you definitely have a good chance to Georgia Tech, just don’t stressed out too much. you have a good ecs and decent scores, and im sure they understand the standards in russia and us is different.</p>

<p>Just got my AP US History score in the mail. Got 5 on it, despite wishing to get at least 4. Never got a single 5 through all the practice tests we did during the year, mostly 3’s and a couple of 4’s. Does AP score really matter during admission process, and what will the admission officer think when they see that I’ve got B for the class, but 5 for the exam?</p>
