I think that my essays were pretty strong. What are my chances for getting in through RD? Congrats to everyone who got in!! :-bd
Awww thanks @MexitalianMom . . . I had a feeling DS was on the bubble. He has a strong ACT super-score, but some fluctuating sub-scores. His GPA is very strong but he didn’t start dual enrollment until 11th grade so he didn’t have lots of weighted heft. We are a homeschooling family and I didn’t want to fluff his transcript. ECs were good but nothing earth-shattering.
He was totally fine - I was the one who wasn’t happy. That being said, it made me feel better about him not taking the really long shot for Stanford (ultimately decided not to put the time or $$ into the app). If he got in everywhere he applied I would have worried that we didn’t reach enough.
My son is a little bit of a late-bloomer so I suspect everything will work out for the best. He loves college classes and has had a great time with dual enrollment. Hoping that stays the same.
It’s fun to see some of the kids here who have been posting regularly get accepted. This was an extremely competitive year for GT so this gang has much to be proud of!
ETA: Just for the record, my DS is the absolute best kid I could ever ask for as a student, sometimes in ways that are hard to quantify in numbers. He and I have been homeschooling for nine years. It has been thrilling to watch him have a good chance at many schools. I am so thankful, and so proud of him - it is hard to put into words. I know he will go far. He has heart and character, not to mention smarts.
DS awarded national 4 year ROTC scholarship during first ROTC board for GT. Denied entry to GT
Major: Civil Eng
Is there any way to edit my essay for regular decision?
@Hermit9 Sounds like a nice school in a great area. How do you feel about being in the middle of Atlanta?? My son loved the campus when we visited, said it felt like a small town. His dad & I are excited to visit him too (don’t know how he feels about that). Haha!
@SouthFloridaMom9 Great job homeschooling! He’ll find his place, i strongly believe that these things all work out for good. Please keep us posted!
@MexitalianMom It is a nice school, arguably the best in SW Georgia.
Despite growing up in the middle of nowhere, I’ve always been a big-city guy at heart. I love ATL but you almost don’t realize it’s there when on campus. The campus is fantastic, too.
What is South Forsyth like?
@Kazoo98 Contact your local admissions counselor. You may be able to send through him/her.
@Hermit9 Well, the deadline is tomorrow. Will they be able to respond that quickly?
@Kazoo98 If you e-mail them before the deadline, regardless of when they respond, they will give you additional time to get it in if necessary.
so…here I go…
I got Deferred I spent like the first two hrs in shock ( and I cried). Then I spent the other hours in double the shock because :
- I got deferred because of an incomplete application (sorry @GustafAngus , I guess you were right to question your application completion)-
(I drove their to find out why I got deferred- yeah, I know that’s a little crazy of me) - just got back lol…
My stats I guess were good too tho.
SAT: 2160 (800 M, 670 R, 690 Wr)
ACT: 35 (36, 34, 34)
GPA: 3.9 W, 3.8 UW
Recs: VERY GOOD
APs: 14
so yeah, all in all - disappointed, but I guess a pinch of joy that they are giving me a second chance. I have so many friends who made it and who are all like “yeah, I’m not going there, I’m going somewhere else” and i’m like “yeah, yeah, yeah”. On the bright side, I won a national award today, so in all I have 2 national awards (I had one from December) that I can report to tech. Hopefully that will boost my chances in the RD round.
To those who got accepted - congrats!
and to those who got deferred - I hear ya, hang in there.
and to those who got denied - don’t worry, you are too good for tech…I mean what university doesn’t have a stat major?!
Oh, speaking of - I don’t think I’m gonna even attend tech (despite the wonderful city campus and the 20 so clubs I have lined up) because I don’t really know if I would want to major in anything other than Statistics. Don’t wanna risk ruining my life, ya know. So I guess Emory is my next #1 option (but its too expensive!) otherwise I’ll go to UGA and I’ll do my grad from tech in statistical analysis (omg, so excited)
@MexitalianMom I still want to know who your son is. PM me.
@RugbyDude6 I wanna know who u are too, pop out of your shell and pm me
oh, and I’m still staying on this thread (for those who thought I was leaving…I ain’t going anywhere until I get accepted to GT)

Why I think I got deferred:
- Poor/Average GPA and Test Scores for an engineer
- My first choice was Mechanical Engineering and second choice was Aerospace Engineering, both extremely competitive
GT was my top choice along with UIUC which I haven’t heard from yet, so I’m pretty bummed. Just wondering, do I have much of a chance to get into Mech. E or Aerospace under RD? Anyways, congrats to all of you guys who did get in, you guys definitely deserve it!
@Xboxgamergirl - you are awesome and you have a great shot at RD. Thanks for chiming in - was wondering how you were!
@Xboxgamergirl Sorry to hear you were deferred. Best of luck for RD!
